Whom to cast if Sheena Bora-Indrani Mukerjea murder case was a Bollywood film

There are many ways of knowing if something has truly caught the nation's attention. For a politician, it's physical abuse in public, with a slap, shoe, and the works. For a female actor, it's some or the other naked or semi-naked controversy; a voyeuristic camera angle, leaked MMS clips or "nude" videos, we love stripping our big-screen goddesses of all their dignity. Similarly, a murder case too reaches its maximum height of frenzy only when there's some filmmaker who decides to script a movie around it.

Art imitates life is a common adage. It's also the most powerful argument made by Bollywood powerhouses when commenting on the impact of movies on the lives and times of our society. No wonder they go running after a controversial, heavily publicised case at the first sighting of a story. It's a kind of a voyeurism that's hard to define; yet its prevalence everywhere is easy to spot. There's Madhur Bhandarkar who's forever busy showing us the dark side of otherwise glitzy professions - though his version of dark side only has extra-marital affairs, closeted homosexuals and small town girls with morals lower than their tops. There's also Mahesh Bhatt who's practically made a career out of his personal equation with yesteryear actor and controversial star Parveen Babi.

We've seen it happen with the Jessica Lal case and it is happening now with the Aarushi Talwar murder with a movie all set to release. Both these cases were riding high on curiosity and our filmmakers were quick to cash in on the hype. Selling facts in disguise of fiction certainly gets the producers putting in money, that's like having your cake and eating it too.

Before a movie is announced on the Sheena Bora murder case and looks like that'll be sooner than later - from multiple marriages, cheating wives, ignorant husbands, step children, disapproved love affairs, it has everything it takes to make a 100-crore Bollywood blockbuster - here's a probable cast list that'll make for a stellar combination. Mahesh Bhatt has already claimed he wrote a script quite similar to this scandal around two-three months back so we're sure this might help him. And of course, everyone's favorite for dirty-rotten-scoundrel like cinema, Mr. Bhandarkar could use it too.

Indrani Mukerjea

A woman, who's married thrice, has kids who she introduces as her siblings and is now the prime suspect in her daughter's murder. Surely Indrani is tough casting. Sushmita Sen perhaps would make for a great choice for she herself has had quite a controversial life too. Remember the multiple affairs with none leading to marriage including an extra-marital one with Vikram Bhatt? The adoption of two daughters as a single parent, a noble yet controversial act? And the rise to becoming India's first-ever Miss Universe and then failing as a mainstream Bollywood actor?

Peter Mukerjea

From a powerful corporate magnate to a lurching in the dark husband, Peter has had quite the fall. As he discovers new secrets about his wife's past everyday while pleading innocent, literally in front of everyone, don't forget he's also the disapproving father who had serious issues with his son having an affair with his wife's so-called sister. Maybe the Nawab himself Saif Ali Khan would be a good choice. He'll look good in business suits and positively glum when questioned by the cops- both faces he's mastered over the years.

Sheena Bora

At the centre of all this muck is Sheena Bora. Imagine her life where her mother didn't leave her with grandparents and introduced her as her sister instead. Her love relation with Rahul was strongly opposed by both her mother and her step-dad. To top it all, she was killed by someone 3 years ago and her dead body was unceremoniously dumped. Oh, the trauma she would have lived with. The only person who seems worthy of this character is perhaps Kangana Ranaut. She's the one with maximum experience of playing one-too-many mentally unstable characters after all.

Mikhail Bora

A vengeful son trying to pass off as a sympathetic brother, Mikhail has many faces. He may have chosen to not bother much about his sister all these years but today, is hell bent on teaching his mother a lesson. The boy was left with his grandparents by his mother and is dying to get back at her. A perfectly grey character, his role deserves someone who's good at both the black and white. How about Ranveer Singh for this role? How about Arjun Kapoor for this one? He's got the smile that's both creepy and disarming. Plus, he's mostly agitated in all his movies too. And going by his weight issues, he'll look the part physically as well.

Rahul Mukerjea

He's the good-looking lover boy who's suddenly found himself in the middle of the massive controversy. All he did was fall in love and sometimes that can be one's biggest crime in our country. His Facebook pictures show a young lad smitten with his step-mom's sister, a woman who as he's discovered now was actually his step-sister. All he does now is look good and look confused. And that's why Aditya Roy Kapoor is the best person for this role. He'll bring in the female audience atleast.

Sanjeev Khanna

Well-known in Kolkata's social circles, Sanjeev is Indrani's ex-husband and one of the prime suspects involved in the murder. A businessman by profession, he's the sort of person you'd never imagine to be involved in something as horrifying as a murder. He's also a father to Vidhie who by the way doesn't acknowledge him as her father. Who knows what's going on there? For this role we need a man who looks simple but has a devious mind inside. How about Mr. Perfectionist Aamir? He did after all manage to simply slide his way through the Jessica Hines controversy years back. He's also known for getting into the skin of the character quite comfortably.

Vidhie Mukerjea

A young girl who's found her family life being dissected by the entire country almost overnight, Vidhie is another interesting member of this dysfunctional clan. Adopted by Peter whom she lovingly accepts as her father and the biological child of Sanjeev and Indrani, she's now facing questions about her mother and father as suspects in her step-sister's murder trial. For a young girl, she's put up a brave front. There aren't many young actors as options for this unfortunately. We'll have to settle for little Miss Alia Bhatt here. Talent or no talent, her age counts here.
