India Today Conclave 2017: I'll never take up the job of advising Rahul Gandhi: Amit Shah

He's the election winning machine and the biggest reason behind PM Narendra Modi's immense electoral success. Amit Shah, the national president of the BJP, engaged over video conference in a lively, freewheeling chat with IndiaToday TV's managing editor Rahul Kanwal at #Conclave17 in Mumbai's Grand Hyatt.

After the spectacular success in the Assembly elections, Shah spoke on issues pertaining to the question if the Modi-Shah duo is the "New Pole of Indian Politics".

Here are the key points of the session.

On Uttar Pradesh victory

"In politics, we work with a mission in mind. People have rejected dynasty politics, caste-based politics. They have given their mandate for development-based politics."

"We had faith the UP will give our party two-third majority. There are several reasons behind the stunning victory. The biggest of them is PM Modi's pro-poor policies."

"Uttar Pradesh will soon be on the map of developed states of the country. We will wipe the BIMARU tag from the state."

"If MLAs want to join another party on the basis of ideology and mood of the nation, you cannot just call it defection. It's more complicated."

"We were smart, so we got Goa and Manipur as well. We have big vote share in both the states. We were quick to move."

On Rahul Gandhi and Congress

"I will never take up a job to advise Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi."

"It was during Congress era that corruption, nepotism, dynasty politics festered in India. We will remove that from the country."

On demonetisation

"Demonetisation was not aimed at getting any political mileage. The mandate in five states proves that people of the country have approved of the PM Modi's decision."

"Demonestisation was a multi-dimensional step. It was just one step in a massive effort to curb black money, corruption."

On simultaneous elections

"We want electoral reforms. We want all elections panchayat, Assembly, Lok Sabha to be held on the same day to save people's money."

"Reform is a small word, we aim at transformation. We took some hard steps with regard to donations to political parties. Change will come gradually, we have started the process."

On governance

"There has been not a single case of corruption reported against our government. Surgical strikes improved India's international image. Reforms for poor, farmers have been taken up on war scale. This government wants overall development be it in agriculture or infrastructure."

On alleged EVM tampering

"People like Mayawati and Arvind Kejriwal should know the EVMs can't be tampered with. No one listens to Kejriwal in the country, he is just frustrated."

On Shiv Sena

"Our alliance with Shiv Sena is intact and will remain so. There's no issue with Shiv Sena, there was a friendly match in Maharashtra civic polls with the Shiv Sena."
