Why everyone in Tamil Nadu blames BJP for AIADMK mess

Tamil Nadu is facing the worst drought in 150 years, more than 400 farmers have committed suicide and looking at their condition, more and more are confessing they want to call it quits and leave the world.

As this scenario is panning out at one end, there is a steady community that is more focused on its personal growth. From September 22, 2016, darkness has spread in the state in every sense.

“The government is on autopilot mode and they are not bothered about the crisis that is staring at the state,” complained DMK spokesperson A Saravanan.

Time and again, though the state's opposition party DMK insists they are not to comment about the internal politics of the ruling AIADMK, it has been seen that they are making the subtle demand for resignation of the government for its lack of action, and the common notion is that the entire AIADMK crisis is orchestrated by the BJP.

The BJP has no grounding in the Dravidian-dominated state of Tamil Nadu and at every crisis of the AIADMK allegations against the BJP are heard loud. “It is the Modi government at the Centre, which does not have any standing in the state, that is intentionally creating trouble for the AIADMK government here. Why is a raid being conducted at Vijayabaskar’s residence? It is all part of BJP's master plan,” an AIADMK supporter said, along with several others, outside health minister Vijayabaskar’s residence when an income tax raid was conducted there.

Later, when a case was filed against Sasikala's nephew TTV Dhinakaran by the Delhi crime branch, a similar outburst was heard outside his residence by his supporters.

Not just AIADMK supporters but other parties in the state too feel the involvement of the BJP. “The observations of political analysts show the invisible hand of the Centre in all developments here. But the AIADMK is blaming the DMK and says that O Panneerselvam is being dictated to by the DMK, but we know now that the AIADMK is scared of the BJP,” said DMK spokesperson A Saravanan.

It is not just the DMK that is vocal about the BJP. “There are a lot of changes and the Modi government is instrumental in this. The Modi government has been interfering in all states that are non-BJP. In the North East, in Pondicherry through Lt-Governor Kiran Bedi, the BJP has been focusing on all non-BJP states. The BJP will never have a stronghold here and they know that,” said Tamil Nadu Congress Committee state president S Thirunavakkarasu.

But as allegations are running high, the BJP continues to maintain that they have no involvement in the political turmoil the state is going through. Speaking to the media during his visit to Chennai, Venkaiah Naidu said: “The BJP is not pulling any strings. We do not interfere in internal party activities. We want them to continue the same way as they were under Amma.”

While Venkaiah made this clear it was seen that the state spokesperson for the BJP, Tamilisai Soundarajan, while meeting the media at Madurai, said: “Yes, the BJP at the Centre is involved in TTV Dhinakaran’s arrest. The BJP government aims to create a corruption-free society and if there is bribery involved, then they need to be punished.”

As the AIADMK lost its beloved leader Jayalalithaa, the people of Tamil Nadu too have been at a huge loss with the state’s governance alleged to have gone for a toss.

The internal power struggle in the ruling party has ensured that the general public looks at the present government with suspicion and is also divided in support. The scenario has also pushed the public to start people’s movements - the Jallikattu protest and the recent farmers' protest at Jantar Mantar are all indications of the lack of trust being generated among the people.

Now, as the two factions of the AIADMK are talking about a merger, will it bring changes?

Let's wait and watch.
