The death of Akshay Singh, a senior AAJTak journalist covering the Vyapam scam, has sent shockwaves through the country, with politicians, activists and fellow journalists questioning the suspicious circumstances in which Singh and many accused have lost their lives in the past few days.
A Special Correspondent with the news channel, Singh was found dead on Friday, soon after interviewing the parents of a girl whose name had appeared in the scam surrounding the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB).
The Vyavsayik Pareeksha Mandal or Vyapam scam has emerged as a massive admission and recruitment scandal involving politicians, bureaucrats and middlemen in Madhya Pradhesh. Several politicians, including former education minister Laxmikant Sharma, a host of officials and scores of aspirants have been arrested in the case. The deaths of many of the accused, some whistleblowers and activists associated with the Vyapam scam have brought the state administration under the scanner.
Twitter expressed outrage over Singh's death, with several politicians demanding MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan's resignation over the scam. Chouhan has now issued a statement stating that every death in the case will be investigated thoroughly.
He was taking strong action against irregular admissions in Medical Colleges through Vyapam. NO Govt said it was suicide !
