Sad about India losing the World Cup? Five reasons to get over it

AAP split

One can't help but feel sorry for the Aam Aadmi Party. They had scheduled their political affairs committee meeting today, perhaps hoping that India's victory in the semi-final will spare them the prime time media glare. Sadly, that was not to be. Expect more fireworks, open letters, loaded tweets and Twitter hashtags to keep us occupied in the days to come.

Where is Rahul Gandhi?

It has been more than a month and there still is no sign of the Congress vice-president. Even those who were ridiculing him for "going on vacation" have run out of possible holiday destinations where he could be. And now there's no chance of spotting him at the World Cup, with Team India out of the race. Congress insiders say that Gandhi didn't go on vacation in the first place. Well, until he surfaces, guessing his location would be a favourite pass time on social media.

Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! release

Perhaps one person can solve the "where is Rahul Gandhi?" mystery, and that is our very own desi detective Byomkesh Bakshi. The Dibakar Banerjee film releases in early April, a timely diversion from the World Cup heartbreak. The Sherlock Holmes-esque trailers of Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! are very different from the genteel ethos of colonial Bengal in which Shardindu Bandhyopadhyay had placed Bakshi. But the film promises to be a cracker all the same. A little bonus for cricket lovers: Sushant Singh Rajput, who is playing the detective, will soon be acting as MS Dhoni in a biopic on the Indian skipper.

Guessing what will be banned next

If there's one thing the BJP government has done with efficiency, it is banning things - from food (beef) to films (Fifty Shades of Grey and India's Daughter), books (Wendy Doniger's The Hindus: An Alternative History) and humour (AIB Roast). Even words like "Bombay" will be beeped out from films made in India. With the government on a banning overdrive, let's place our bets on what will be banned next. Wait, is betting legal?

IPL

For those whose dil maange more cricket, the Indian Premier League is just round the corner. Even Anushka Sharma will have some respite from snoopy cameras as there will be many more Bollywood stars cheering from the stands.
