Costa Rica air crash viral video and 5 terrifying plane accidents caught on camera

The world woke up to yet another shocking plane crash, just weeks after the deadly China Eastern Airlines crash. This time, it was a cargo plane belonging to German logistics company DHL that made a crash landing at Costa Rica’s Juan Santamaria international airport.

The bright yellow plane skidded off the runway as it made an emergency landing and then the plane split into two.

Fortunately, it was not a nightmare plane crash, as no one was killed or seriously injured. One member of the crew is undergoing a medical check as a precaution. An investigation has been launched to discern what went wrong.

As per the information available, it was a Boeing 757-200 aircraft that was headed to Guatemala.

The video of the plane crash is quite dramatic. But of course, the DHL plane is not the first to suffer a horrific breakdown of the aircraft; something which was also caught on camera.

Here are 5 other terrifying, scary plane crashes in aviation history that were caught on camera:

1. CHINA PLANE CRASH, MARCH 2022

We cannot start this list without mentioning the recent China Eastern Airlines crash for multiple reasons – one, because it’s very recent; and two, due to its mysterious and rare circumstances.

On March 20, 2022, the China Eastern Airlines flying on a domestic and short route nose-dived vertically and crashed reportedly at the speed of sound into a mountain range. All 132 passengers and crew died in the fatal crash. Experts are still trying to wrap their head around how the plane got into the vertical dive position, stayed in that position, and then crashed.

2. TRANSASIA TAIWAN CRASH, 2015

The 2015 TransAsia Airways Flight 235 crash is the stuff of movies, straight out of something like Final Destination. The flight crashed shortly after take-off into a river, while also scraping the top of a taxi on a flyover. The chilling and otherworldly video was captured on the dashcam of a car on the same road.

The crash killed 48 out of the 58 people on board.

3. TRIBHUVAN AIRPORT CRASH, 2018

In 2018, the US-Bangla Airlines Flight 211 crashed on landing at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal. The flight was ferrying passengers from Dhaka, Bangladesh, to Kathmandu in Nepal. The crash killed 51 of the 71 people on board. Among the 20 survivors of the crash, several were badly injured.

4. EVEREST AIRPORT CRASH, 2019

In 2019, Summit Air aircraft LET L-410 crashed at Nepal’s Lukla airport, killing three people; a pilot and two policemen on the ground. The aircraft crashed into two parked helicopters while landing at the airport. Lukla airport is considered the world’s highest and the most dangerous airport. Tourists headed to Mt Everest often land at this airport.

5. THE AIR INDIA PLANE CRASHES AT TABLETOP AIRPORTS, 2010 AND 2020

While there are no videos of the two crashes, here are the simulation videos:

2010 Air India Express Crash IX812, Mangaluru

2020 Air India Express 737-800 crash, Kozhikode

India witnessed two-passenger plane crashes at two of the country’s tabletop airports – first in 2010 in Mangaluru, Karnataka; and second in 2020, in Kerala’s Kozhikode.

In 2010, Air India Express Flight 812 crashed on landing at Mangaluru airport after overshooting the runway and falling down a hillside. Out of the 166 people on board, 158 were killed in the deadly crash.

In a similar case of overshooting the runway, in 2020, the Air India Express Flight 1344 crashed on landing at the Kozhikode airport, killing 19 passengers and both the pilots. 165 passengers survived the crash. The aircraft also crashed overshooting the runway and falling down a slope. The flight was originally supposed to land at Calicut International Airport, but bad weather prevented it from the scheduled landing.
