Netflix and Hotstar are having an epic meltdown, thanks to Twitter newbies

It's an epic tale of locking horns, albeit in the virtual amphitheatre and well the horns too are a bit dicey. Netflix and Hotstar, two new age streaming services targeting the "cool" millennial, have started going at each other on Twitter and the results are hilarious, to say the least.

Social media marketing in India is still in its infancy and, as a corollary, accounts of even big corporations are mostly handled by infants.

The result is a myriad manic mistakes, eventually ending with profuse public apologies. This breeds increased caution in social media managers, resulting in boring, mostly generic Twitter and Facebook activity.

Twitter has been around for a while in the West and is ingrained in the culture as a venting mechanism. Handlers, users and even trolls are all the more comfortable with using it.

This confidence manifests itself in big competing accounts going at each other way more than India.

Kevin Spacy plays a corrupt politician in Netflix's House of Cards.

But times they are a changing, and millennial social media editors in India are more brazen and don't give two hoots about rep as long as they end up looking uber cool.

Coming back to the epic face-off between Netflix and Hotstar, the two streaming services so millennial that they would give Mila Kunis a run for her millennial-ness.

So, what about them? Well, this: Netflix and Hotstar and neither just chilling, nor going solo. They are, in fact, going at each other on Twitter.

The answer may (not) surprise you:

Netflix marked the birthday of probably its biggest Star Kevin Spacy yesterday.

The problem is that their billboard looked similar to one Hotstar had used to promote AIB's show last year.

And they made sure Netflix knew this.

Aaaaand it went off.

You know its real when GIFs are being used.

Claire Underwood drinking wine is a winner on most days..

But Hotstar showed off a slamdunk comeback!

Damn!

Now we know what World War III would possibly look like: GIF light sabres on incessant tweets with Taylor Swift's and Kit Harrington's faces plastered on them. Perhaps, Prisma-fied too.

Double damn!
