How Hailey-Kendall drama helped Selena Gomez become the most followed woman on Instagram

Over the weekend, on March 17, Selena Gomez became the most followed woman on Instagram. With 401 million followers now, she has surpassed Kylie Jenner, who has 382 million followers. There are only two people who have more followers than Gomez on Instagram: Cristiano Ronaldo (563 million followers) and Lionel Messi (443 million followers).

Selena's followers skyrocketed after a drama (online fight) between Hailey Bieber, her and the Jenner (Kylie and Kendall) sisters.

In case you missed it, here's a quick recap of what's happening:

  • Hailey and Kendall were trolled after they posted a TikTok video in which (Selena fans believe) they were taking a dig at Selena Gomez's vacation photos, which she already was body shamed for.
  • In the video, Kendall, Hailey and Justine Skye (you must have heard her song Collide) were lip-syncing to the lyrics, "I'm not saying she deserved it but I'm saying is god timings is always right."
  • Then, two months later, the whole thing erupted after Selena posted a now-deleted TikTok video admitting that she laminated her eyebrows "too much".
  • After this, Kylie posted a photo on her Instagram Story showing off her eyebrows with the caption "This was an accident?????"

  • Kylie goes on to post another photo, with Hailey and her eyebrows.

  • Fans add two and two and TikTok and Instagram erupted in flames.

By the way, this happened a month ago, and if you think this drama is over, let us tell you that it is far from over. Now, Selena fans can't calm down and here's what they are doing for their revenge, apart from trolling Hailey and Kylie:

  1. Unfollowing Hailey and the Jenner sisters on Instagram and other social media sites (The trio has already lost more than 300k followers on Instagram).
  2. Making everyone else around them follow Selena.

Hailey and Selena feud

Anything that is related to Hailey and Selena has always been a hyper-sensitive topic with fans from both sides overanalysing every details posted from both ends.

Due to this, Selena is often seen taking breaks from social media to 'move away from the negativity' (She took one, about three weeks ago amid this drama).

For instance, on May 2022, Selena was the one receiving hate when she posted a look at her skincare routine on TikTok and some fans accused her of subtly mocking a video that Hailey Bieber had posted just hours earlier.

Flashback May 2022

Hailey posted a "get ready with me" video to TikTok showing fans her beauty routine. Later, Gomez posted a video of her own, showcasing her skincare routine too, which fans believed was actually mocking Hailey (We don't know why).

This was later cleared by Selena, saying that the whole thing was actually a 'stupid coincidence' and nothing more than that.

Why fans can't let it go

Even though in the month of October last year, during the Academy Museum Gala, both of them posted a picture together indicating that they had put their past behind them, the fans are still fixated.

It seems like nothing is going to change when it comes to the fans of celebrities. Anything and everything that Selena and Hailey do or post on social media, their fans assume it to be a vendetta against each other.
