Karma collab a bummer! But who is Ice Spice, and how did she become famous?

On May 24, Grammy winner singer Taylor Swift took to Instagram to share that she would be releasing a new version of her album Midnights with a “Karma” remix, and that it would feature 23-year-old rapper Ice Spice. However, her fans feel that t was one of the collabs they never needed.

Taylor's fans believe the collab is to save Taylor's rumoured boyfriend Matty Healy, as he had made some racists remarks about the rapper during a podcast. The feud is all over the internet, but no one is noticing how Ice Spice has rose up to fame from an under-rated artist to hitting the top charts.

But, who is Ice Spice?

Ice spice is an American rapper who was born in Bronx, New York City. Isis Naija Gaston is her real name which many are unaware of. She attended State University of New York at Purchase where she met with a record producer, RiotUSA, and started her career in 2021.

She went viral on Twitter with her Buss it Challenge, then releasing her debut song Bully Freestyle. Her Instagram popularity rose when her song Name of Love gained success on SoundCloud. Later, her Munch (Feelin' u) song went viral on TikTok.

How she became famous

Ice Spice figured out the TikTok viral strategy, and after her collab with Pink Panthress Boys a Liar Pt 2 was released, she was everywhere. 

The song charted top 1 in New Zealand Music Charts and was in the Top 18 category around countries and Top 3 in Billboard Worldwide. She was in headlines after Kim Kardashian invited Ice Spice to her home as North (Kim's daughter) is a huge fan of her. Internet went crazy as North was dressed like Ice Spice. The photos again went viral, benefitting both her image and the Kardashians'.
 

By making her red carpet debut at Met Gala 2023, she again shocked the world in both good and bad ways, but always making sure she is the talk of the town.

She released the Princess Diana remix with one of her inspirations, Nicki Minaj. This also hit the Billboard Top 100 charts. And now her new release and stage performance with Taylor Swift has made her really popular.
