Tom Holland and Zendaya engaged? A timeline of their relationship

Tom Holland and Zendaya fans are beside themselves with happiness since news of the stars' engagement broke. The rumours of their engagement began doing the rounds on Tuesday, after Hopfive announced that they are engaged. 

The rumour can be believed to some extent, as the couple has always been private about the stages of their relationship ever since they first met in 2016 during the filming of Spider-man: Homecoming.

Take a look at their relationship timeline: 

June 2016: The pair first meets while filming for Spider-Man: Homecoming in the summer of 2016, and Tom tells People that Zendaya is his BFF. 

July 2016: Zendaya makes her debut on Tom's Instagram. The photo was captioned: Summer Sundays, and was clicked during the filming of Spider-man. 

May 2017: Lip Sync Battle airs one of the most iconic 'battles' between Zendaya and Tom. 

Tom's dance on the "Singin' in the Rain"/"Umbrella" mashup keeps surfacing on Instagram every now and then. And the cutest thing about the battle? Zendaya's reaction to Tom's dance. (if you haven't watched it, here it is; and if you have, watch it again)

July 2017: The couple is spotted getting cosy during press tours for the movie. The media starts speculating their relationship status.

Zendaya, however, tells Variety that Tom was "literally one of my best friends."

May 2018: Tom Holland and Zendaya keep a low profile while shooting for their second movie together. 

2019-2020: During this time, two important incidents occur; which causes many to doubt the couple's relationship status: 

• Zendaya reportedly starts dating her Euphoria co-star Jacob Elordi in the summer of 2019. They are photographed holidaying in Greece and later spending Thanksgiving together in Australia.

   

• Tom, meanwhile, goes Instagram official with his girlfriend Nadia Parks in July 2020. The pair then quarantines together during the lockdown. 

February 2021: Tom and Zendaya are both single now, after breaking up with their respective partners. 

July 2021: Tom and Zendaya send their fans into a meltdown when Page Six publishes photos of the couple kissing in a car in Los Angeles, finally offering fans some visual confirmation that their romance is not just a rumour. 

August 2021: The couple attends a friend's wedding together, where they are spotted dancing together.  

September 2021: Tom takes on his Instagram to wish Zendaya a happy birthday, with the cutest caption, "My MJ, have the happiest of birthdays. Gimme a call when you're up" (fans know what MJ means)

December 2021: Tom, during an interview with Associated Press, explains how Zendaya's guidance has helped him through the fame that comes with showbiz. 

Spider-Man: No Way Home hits theatres, and Zendaya posts a picture of Tom with the caption: My Spider-Man, I'm so proud of you. 

February 2022: The couple attends a New York Rangers hockey game on February 17, both wearing a personalised jersey with each other's name on it (couple outfits goals). 

November 2022: On November 23, Us Weekly quotes a source as saying that the pair's relationship seems "serious and permanent".  And on November 29, news breaks that the couple is engaged.
