British actor, Tom Holland, who is famously known for his portrayal of the web-slinging superhero, aka Spider-Man, recently announced that he will be taking a one-year sabbatical from acting due to his intense role in his upcoming Apple TV+ series The Crowded Room.

Both Spider-Man and Tom Holland fans were left a bit flabbergasted when the actor announced the decision of his year-long break from acting publicly at the premiere of The Crowded Room in New York City. The actor said, “I’m now taking a year off, and that is a result of how difficult this show was”.

Why the sudden break?

Tom Holland’s upcoming project, The Crowded Room is also the actor’s debut as a producer, which is something that according to him, was an added pressure to juggle along with the intense character role he plays in the said series.

“It was a tough time, for sure… And then on top of that, being a producer, dealing with the day-to-day problems that come with any film set, just added that extra level of pressure.”

What is The Crowded Room about?

The series is somewhat inspired by the true story of Billy Milligan, also known as the "The Campus Rapist" who was the first ever person in the history of the United States to get acquitted of multiple felonies by pleading insanity because of associative personality disorder, claiming to have 24 different personalities. Holland plays an adapted role of Miligan under the name of Danny Sullivan in the series.

Tom's role in The Crowded Room has supposedly taken a heavy toll on his mental health.

Meanwhile, the early reviews of The Crowded Room are in and the scenario do not look promising with the series scoring significantly low score of 8% on Rotten Tomatoes and neitizens have not let this window of opportunity to highlight the irony, slip away.

The miniseries is set to release on Apple TV+ on June, 2023 and with this recent announcement by the anchor, the expectations from the series are certainly high.
