WWE WrestleMania 39: Predictions for 10 big fights

Mohammad BilalMarch 31, 2023 | 08:00 IST

The 39th edition of WrestleMania, the biggest event in WWE, will take place on April 1-2 at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, US.

The event is packed with at least 10 big matches for which we will give our predictions. The main event will feature Roman Reigns as he puts his undisputed WWE universal championship on the line against Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes.

The big questions before the start of WrestleMania will be: Can Cody win the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship, will Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens win the Undisputed Tag Team Title belts from the Usos and will Edge be able to retain his legacy in the Hell in the Cell matches against Finn Balor.

We will answer these questions later in the article. First let’s start with the biggest match of WrestleMania 39.

1. Roman Reigns vs Cody Rhodes (WWE Undisputed Universal Championship)

The main event of the WrestleMania 39 is the most intense face–off between ‘The American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes and the ‘Tribal Chief’ Roman Reigns. The outcome of this match is also one of the most difficult anticipations for the fans.

Some wrestling observers feel that Reigns would retain the title that extends his domination of the title belt for more than 1000 days now. While others think that it’s time for Cody, who has been built up for this match, that he gets the Championship at least sometime.

It’s true that since Cody Rhodes returned from a torn pectoral muscle injury after a seven months gap at the Royal Rumble and won it, he has been built up for the match against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania.

But there has also been a trend in WWE for the past few years that the Royal Rumble winners are not eventually crowned the Champion at WrestleMania.

So who wins this battle? Cody Rhodes looks to have the upper hand in the match because Reigns has had his share of the title shots and the company can give Reigns some time off and let Rhodes handle the title belt.

A crack in ‘The Bloodline’ is also expected, which might eventually lead to Reigns losing against Cody Rhodes.

Winner: Cody Rhodes

2. Brock Lesnar vs Omos

The feud between Brock Lesnar and Omos is something no one wanted to see. The match is not going to last for more than 10 minutes but it can promise to be a good one provided Omos does his job well.

The company seems to have made up its mind of giving Lesnar some rest after this match (which Brock Lesnar definitely wants) . We might not see Lesnar for a long time, or at least six months after this. But with Omos, the biggest problem is that he is not that great a match for Lesnar.

In the few times he has appeared in the WWE, he has not been able to catch the attention. Maybe the call of by putting him up against Lesnar was a way to pave a way for him.

Winner: Brock Lesnar

3. John Cena vs Austin Theory

The Jon Cena vs Austin Theory would kickoff the WrestleMania 39 night with Theory’s United States Championship on the line.

Cena was expected to be there at WrestleMania 39, but the company hadn’t made it clear in what capacity he would be there. And just three weeks before WrestleMania 39, a challenge from Austin Theory solved the puzzle.

But who wins it? Cena is a veteran of the game and 16 time WWE Champion. He has helped a lot of younger talents like Roman Reigns, Sheamus and Kevin Owens. This too might be one of those matches where he just comes, performs and leaves for the rest of the year.

With his Hollywood career in full swing, it doesn’t look like Cena would show up in WWE with the United States Championship belt.

So, Cena would happily lose this to Austin Theory who has been given a massive push by the company in recent times.

Winner: Austin Theory

4. Edge vs Finn Balor

It’s going to be the demon Finn Balor against Brood-style Edge at WrestleMania 39. The rivalry between the two has been going on for some time and WrestleMania 39 might be the time when we finally see an end to this.

But who has the upper hand? There is no doubt about the fact that Edge is a fantastic performer in the ring and Balor still has a lot to learn from him. Balor’s victory against Edge in the ‘I Quit Match’ came as a big surprise for the WWE Universe.

Some people thought Edge’s career would end with this. But then this rivalry stretched and here we are preparing for Hell in a Cell match.

I personally feel that Edge should be the one who wins the match. Balor has been given his due at Extreme Rules 2022 and that Edge, who is the master of the game and the one who has competed with wrestling giants like ‘The Undertaker’ in the ring, cannot lose against Finn Balor inside Hell in a Cell.

However, many also say that Balor has an upper hand against Edge in this match because that prepares him for his future.

Winner: Edge

5. Sami Zayn and  Kevin Owens vs The Usos (WWE Undisputed Tag Team Championship)

Well, it is a no-brainer. I already see Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens tearing The Usos apart and lifting the tag team championship belts at WrestleMania 39.

The Usos have done a fine job so far being part of 'The Bloodline' but Zayn and Owens have become the latest crowd favouites.

Remember the crowd appreciation which the two got when Owens joined hands with Zayn against The Usos.

So, in all probability, 'The Bloodline' might split at WrestleMania 39 and Owens and Zayn will be the new WWE Tag Team Champions.

Winner: Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn

6. Rey Mysterio vs Dominik Mysterio

The father-son feud has taken an interesting turn in the past few weeks. From Rey Mysterio backing off completely against his son Dom to finally accepting the challenge, I think this match might not end like the fans think.

Dom looks cool as a heel and with Rhea Ripley on his side, and being a part of The Judgement Day, Dom looks promising. Rey, on the other hand, is at the end of his career and wouldn’t want to spoil his son’s career by winning over this feud.

My hunch is Dom would win this match and this also wouldn’t be the end of his rivalry. Rey might disappear for some time and might come later in the company to continue this feud with Dom.

But for WrestleMania 39, I am going with Dom winning over Rey.

Winner: Dominik Mysterio

7. Gunther vs Sheamus vs Drew McIntyre (Intercontinental Championship)

Well, it’s kind of a heart-break to see Drew McIntyre coming down from a WWE Undisputed Champion at WrestleMania 36 to competing for Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 39.

Nevertheless, both Sheamus and McIntyre have been previous WWE Champions and with Gunther the contest looks stunning. In fact, the Triple Threat match is one of the most underrated matches of the night.

Regarding who has the edge over here, well, it’s clear that Gunther is most likely to drop the belt so either McIntyre or Sheamus are going to win.

And I would go for McIntyre for this match, because he is a better performer than Sheamus in the ring.

Winner: Drew McIntyre

8. Seth ‘Freaking’ Rollins vs Logal Paul

Logal Paul might have started as a baby face but since he turned heel, he looks interesting.

At WrestleMania 39, however, Seth Rollins is expected to emerge taller because he is too good for Logan Paul in the ring. Rollins, a former WWE World Champion, wouldn't go down losing this bout to a newcomer.

Winner: Seth ‘Freaking’ Rollins

9. Charlotte Flair vs Rhea Ripley (Smackdown’s Women's Championship)

It’s again a no-brainer that Rhea Ripley will triumph over Charlotte Flair for the women's championship.

Ripley, being part of The Judgement Day, is blowing red hot and has been more popular than any other female wrestler in the company. So, a win against Flair would strengthen her position in the WWE.

Winner: Rhea Ripley

10. Bianca Belair vs Asuka (RAW Women’s Championship match)

Bianca Blair looks strong in comparison to Asuka and at WrestleMania 39. There are speculations that she might retain the championship belt against Asuka.

Though Asuka has been very impressive ever since her return, Bianca looks too good in front of her.

Winner: Bianca Blair
