The Cinematic Orchestra joins the Echoes of Earth lineup

The nu-jazz and modern classical outfit will be performing in Delhi on 16 April (Sunday) as a part of the two-day Echoes of Earth festival. Described as “India’s greenest music festival”, Echoes of Earth started in 2016 and stopped after 2019 due to the pandemic. Kicking back to life in 2022, the 2023 edition will be its fifth one. The festival is noted for bringing alternate genre artists from India and the West as well as the attention to holding the event with the most environmentally-aware practices.

Who are The Cinematic Orchestra? Are they worth the live experience?

Starting out in London in 1999, The Cinematic Orchestra has evolved as a band with a heavily improvisational approach. Continuing the traditions of the jazz genre, many of the band’s new-age jazz and electronica work is performed in different variations in different concerts. Improvising and remixing their originals is key to many performances.

So, an average Cinematic Orchestra concert is bound to offer something new even to dedicated listeners. With their music being ambient and easy to the ears, even new audiences might have a good time.

What is The Cinematic Orchestra’s most popular song?

While the band has released four acclaimed albums (along with several other remix albums), The Cinematic Orchestra’s most popular single remains to be To Build A Home. The song owes its popularity to its heavy usage in a wide variety of English-language movies and shows.

Grey’s Anatomy, the Schitt’s Creek finale documentary, Scenes From A Marriage, Orange Is The New Black, The Edge of Seventeen’s trailer, and Homeland are just some of the many places where the song was featured.

The six-minute-long track is a soothing specimen of chamber pop (a rock subgenre combining rock music with intricate vocal harmonies, strings and horns) and its music video is unique for addressing themes of euthanasia. Released in 2007, To Build A Home has become synonymous with The Cinematic Orchestra. So, one can definitely expect this song to be on the band’s setlist when they perform in India.
