A 30-year-old woman was attacked by a pitbull dog in Haryana's Gurugram on Thursday. The woman was admitted to Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital where her condition is critical.

What happened? The woman, identified as Munni, worked as a domestic help. She was going for work in the Civil Lines area when a pitbull dog attacked her. The dog first knocked down the woman and then attacked her, giving her serious injuries on head and face, news agency PTI reported. She was rushed to the hospital by the locals.

The police said that the dog sprang upon the woman after its owner Vinit Chikara mistakenly left the dog's harness loose. "We are investigating the matter and action will be taken according to the law," PTI quoted Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Preet Pal Singh Sangwan as saying.

Not first such incident: This is the second such incident in a month. In July, an 82-year-old woman in Lucknow's Kaiserbagh area was mauled to death by her pitbull. The woman lived with her son who was out of the house when the incident happened. She was rushed to the hospital where she succumbed to injuries.

The dog was taken away by the Lucknow Nagar Nigam authorities but was later returned to its owner.

Pitbulls have a violent history: Pitbulls are medium-sized, short-haired dogs with a solid built. Due to their violent history, they are banned in at least 30 countries including UK, France, Australia and New Zealand. These dogs have the tendency to attack human beings. In UK, the dog was banned in 1991.
