Delhi man stabs 16-year-old girl 20 times, clobbers her to death, arrested after CCTV video goes viral

In a shocking incident on Sunday (May 28), a 16-year-old girl was stabbed over 20 times and then stoned to death in full public view in northwest Delhi's Shahbad Dairy area.

What happened?

The teen girl was heading for the birthday of her friend's son when Sahil confronted her which led to a quarrel between the two. Sahil stabbed her multiple times and the knife even got stuck into the victim's skull. Following this, Sahil picked up a boulder lying nearby and smashed her head five times, reported India Today.

The whole incident was captured on CCTV where people were seen passing by the spot of the incident. The accused was apparently in a relationship with the deceased.

An FIR was registered under Section 302 of the IPC at the Shahbad Dairy police station on the complaint of the deceased's father.

Accused arrested

The accused, Sahil, who is a fridge and AC repair mechanic, was arrested by the police today (May 29) in Bulandshahar district of Uttar Pradesh.

Who said What?

Reacting to the incident, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal urged LG Vinai Kumar Saxena to take strict action against the accused.

• Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal asked police to to file an action taken report with the commission in 48 hours

• BJP leader Kapil Mishra also tweeted video after the incident and hinted at a 'love-jihad' angle.

A rise in such cases?

Of late, we have seen many incidents of gruesome murders of women by their boyfriends and live-in partners.

• The murder of 27-year-old Shraddha Walker (May 2022) by her boyfriend and live-in partner Aftab Poonawala shook the country. Aftab, after strangling Shraddha, cut her body into 35 pieces and stored them in a fridge before disposing of the bags in the forests of south Delhi. The incident came to light six months after the incident when Shraddha's family lodged a complaint.

• In another shocking incident in February 2023, a woman was found inside a refrigerator at a dhaba in west Delhi's Najafgarh. According to the police, the accused Sahil Gahlot strangled his girlfriend, Nikki Yadav using a mobile cable because she objected to Sahil getting married to another woman. Afterwards, he took the body to a dhaba and stuffed it into a refrigerator.
