Shraddha Walkar murder: Aftab's narco test today, police hopeful it will solve death mystery

Aftab Amin Poonawalla's narco-analysis test will begin today. He's accused of killing his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar. Delhi Police escorted Aftab out of Tihar jail in the morning to Rohini's Ambedkar hospital. 

Aftab has also undergone several rounds of polygraph test. The police have not ruled out the possibility, of having to conduct brain mapping on Aftab, in case the narco test proves to be inconclusive. 

Regardless, polygraph or narco test results are inadmissible as evidence in a court of law. But the police hope to filter the truth from lies from Aftab's statements, as they believe that he's trying to mislead them about the evidence. 

Context: Aftab was arrested on November 12 for allegedly strangling to death his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar. He's reportedly confessed to murdering her, dismembering her body, and scattering them across various locations in and around Delhi over several days and possibly months. 

• However, Delhi Police has not found any concrete evidence to pin the crime on Aftab. They have not found any body parts belonging to Shraddha Walkar or the weapon used to chop her body. 

So far: Delhi Police are still searching for any key witnesses to the case. They have recorded statements from around 50 people including Shraddha and Aftab's friends and family members. 

• Police also spoke to a woman Aftab dated after murdering Shraddha. She gave the police a ring Aftab had gifted her and the police believe it belonged to Shraddha. 
• The woman said that when she visited Aftab's flat in Delhi she did not notice anything amiss in him or the apartment, and even said that Aftab appeared to be normal and caring. 
• The police have found some 25-30 pieces of bones including a jawbone from Mehrauli forest and sent them for DNA testing. 
• Some bloodstained tiles from Aftab's Chhatarpur apartment in Delhi were also sent for DNA testing. 
• Police have seized at least five knives from Aftab's Delhi flat suspected to have been used for chopping up Shraddha's body. 
• Shraddha's friends' account of her relationship with Aftab and a 2020 police complaint letter written by Shraddha, all prove that Aftab used to physically and mentally abuse her. 
• Aftab had also threatened to kill Shraddha and dismember her body in the past. 

What the polygraph test revealed: Delhi Police sources said that Aftab confessed to killing and dismembering Shraddha. He also confessed to scattering her body parts in Mehrauli forest. 

• Police sources say Aftab did not kill Shraddha in the heat of the moment, as he has so far claimed. 
• The police believe that Aftab planned Shraddha's murder because she wanted to break up with him and he did not like the idea of her being with another man. 

Aftab and Shraddha met in 2019 on the dating app Bumble and moved in together after nearly six months of dating; despite Shraddha's parents being against their relationship. In early 2022, they decided to shift from Mumbai and went for a vacation in Himachal Pradesh before renting a flat in Delhi's Chhatarpur. Shraddha was murdered on May 18 (date not confirmed), just three days after they moved into the apartment. 

Shraddha's estranged father Vikas Walkar, filed a missing complaint in October with the Maharashtra Police, after one of her friends raised concern about Shraddha being incommunicado.
