iOS 16 beta 5: What new features is Apple introducing in iPhone software update?

Apple released the iOS 16 beta 5 version for developers a few days ago and reviewers are going gaga on social media over one feature. Apple is bringing back the battery percentage indicator and the internet can't keep calm. Android users may not understand the feeling.

But there's much more to iOS 16 than just the battery percentage feature. Here's how developers are rating the software update:

1. Battery percentage: Let's start with the feature iPhone users are excited about. The feature was removed from iPhones when iPhone X was launched. So, it is making a return after 5 years.

However, the feature isn't available in iPhone minis, iPhone 11 and iPhone XR. Users can enable the indicator by going to settings. Your iPhone will then show the percentage of battery left on the battery icon on top right corner of the phone. The feature has existed for long on Android phones.

2. Copy and Delete: My favourite thing about iOS 16 would be the option of 'Copy and Delete' for screenshots. Currently, there are options to only select 'Done', 'Save to Photos', Save to Files' or 'Delete Screenshot' and 'Cancel'.

A 'Copy and Delete' option will allow users to easily share the screenshot and not have to download it.

3. Lock Screen customisations: iOS 16 allows users to decide where they want their notifications to show - as a stack at the bottom of the screen, see the notifications as just an 'N' which will expand when tapped or just as the old school list.

Then, there is a visualiser added to the full-screen music player. There are reports that users will also be able to add widgets to the Lock Screen and apply the Portrait or in-depth effect to lock screen wallpapers.

4. Music player: Dolby Atmos and Lossless indicators will be placed next to the genre of the track. Currently, you can find the options below play and shuffle.

5. Sound for Find My: Then there's a slight update to the 'Play Sound' option in the Find My app. There's a new tone that is said to be clearer than in previous versions.

6. Some apps have widget functions: iOS 16 displays widgets for some apps in Spotlight as well. One developer tested it for CardPointers, an app that tells which card use is best for what website. And the suggestions came up directly in iPhone's Spotlight.

Spotlight is a search bar that pops up simply by swiping top to bottom on the home screen of an iPhone.

When will the update be available? Currently, iOS 16 versions are available for download only for registered developers. There are ways in which you can also download the beta versions, but it isn't recommended for common users. Most beta software updates come with lots of bugs and downloading beta software meant for testing can result in battery issues and even data loss.

iOS 16 is expected to be released along with Apple's iPhone 14. The software will be available in iPhone 8 and newer models.
