Will Dangal become Bollywood's biggest blockbuster by earning Rs 400 crore?

Mr Perfectionist Aamir Khan's magnum opus Dangal has set the box office scorching as it continues to break records in a tumble. The movie has achieved benchmarks with regularity since it was released two weeks ago.

The film, which collected Rs 100 crore within three days in its opening week, has been breaking records in a hurry: the Rs 200-crore mark, then the Rs 300 crore and now after having breached the psychological mark of Rs 350 crore, it is the biggest Bollywood blockbuster of all times.

But this is not something new for Aamir. His movies have been path-breaking; always managing to set the box office on fire. The actor seems obsessed with delivering firsts with every movie: Ghajini became the first film to cross Rs 100 crore; 3 Idiots earned Rs 200 crore for the first time; and PK was the first to land in the Rs 300-crore club.

Hindi movie critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh claimed in his tweet:

The film has also delivered exceptional performance in the overseas market.

A still from Dangal.

Taran also tweeted:

Despite demonetisation, Dangal has taken Bollywood out of the recession that it was battling after notebandi. Industry pundits had predicted a lukewarm response in the wake of the noteban drive, but Dangal proved them all wrong.

The movie, which has done exceptionally well in both the domestic as well as international markets, has also received universal acclaim. The Haryana-set film is a sports biopic of grappler Mahavir Singh Phogat, who aspired his daughters against all odds to win the gold medal for India. One of his daughters eventually fulfilled his aspirations during the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

The big question is: When would Dangal become India’s first Rs 400-crore film? Or, even better, Rs 500-crore? I think it’s just a matter of time.
