Why it was an orgy of men's fashion at BET Awards 2015

While the ladies have, in all their glory, put up great shows on the red carpet, the men are not far behind. They're pushing boundaries to make their presence felt.

Pushing boundaries is understatement; balancing what's trending and character, is ballsy. And, that's exactly what happened on the red carpet at The Black Entertainment Television Awards 2015. Take some notes earth, because these men are here to stay and rock your sartorial boat.

From unconventional prints to unexpected colors and blending contrasting ideas, these men seem to have a lot of tricks up their sleeves. Not to mention a lot of fun (I would imagine). They embraced fashion, even stretched it, took it a notch higher and made it their own. And, that's when change happens.

It's apparent that the classic tuxedo is no longer the go-to option at important events for these men. And black, they must have thought, is overrated. But how does one fit into an award function like the BETs? Well, ask Chris Brown- a look that could easily be understood, let's say, if you're vacationing in The Bahamas, but to pull it off on the red carpet at The BET Awards - that is swag. And Flo Rida showed up in a pink suit. What the hell do you say to that?

It's their individuality on their sleeves. It's about playing with character. They're not afraid. They're comfortable in their own skin, they can pull off what they wear. Above all, they can change it any time they want. And, that's what I call style. Because one can put on fashion, but it's not easy to put on style. Well, you'd have to be either Chris Brown or Flo Rida to put on both!

Not conforming to rules is a given, but to marry fashion and style so effortlessly isn't. You've got to know what's trending and what works for you. If that's too much of a burden, hire a kickass stylist!

The BET Awards could give The MTV Video Music Awards, The Grammys and The Oscars a run for their money if I solely take on board men's fashion and style.

It's an affirmation that men's clothing need not be boring. Don't believe me?

Check out our very own Akshay Kumar gracing the cover of GQ India's June 2015 issue. And, of course, Virat Kohli in a head-to-toe green three-piece Dolce & Gabbana suit in the March 2015 issue.

That, in my dictionary, is the 21st century MAN.

And it's hardly the end of it. Spoiler alert! Spring 2016 menswear is everything but mundane.

Don't try any of this at home unless you're heading to the BETs.
