Remembering Glenn Frey: My 10 favourite tracks of The Eagles

If the 1970s had a soundtrack, it will be hard not to hear it featuring the inimitable notes of Glenn Frey's guitar. You will almost be able to see him hopping on the stage during the live performances of The Eagles. That sound, which we know today as "California rock", or as Rolling Stone once described it, a combination of "country-tinged vocal harmonies with hard rock guitars and lyrics", is truly original and spellbinding.

Frey, who teamed up with Don Henley, sometime in 1970, went on to form The Eagles after struggling for nearly a decade in the music industry. There was no looking back. They went on to become one of the world's best-selling bands of their time.

Frey wasn't just a guitarist, he was also instrumental in writing and co-writing many songs that gave The Eagles its edge. From "Hotel California" to "Take it Easy", each song a Glenn Frey touch. Though many critics panned them for being too slick and "unadventurous". However, it was that same signature style that made the band perhaps the greatest ever to have come out of the 1970s from America.

Fans around the world grieved when the band broke up, but Glenn Frey wasn't done with his guitar yet. In fact, the man went on to make a career as a solo artist. Meanwhile, the legacy that Frey and Henley had created with the Eagles, continued to rock the charts with their albums being one of the highest selling ever.

Glenn Frey died on January 18, 2016, of complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis and pneumonia.

Here is a list of my ten favourite tracks of The Eagles:
