Beware! Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3 is the worst joke on a sex comedy
At one point in Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3 (KKHH3), Micky (Krishna Abishek) says that he invited Rocky (Aftab Shivdasani) and Kanhaiya (Tusshar Kapoor) to Thailand to do what Sunny Leone did after she came to India. Rocky and Kanhaiya then go on to star in intolerable smutty spoofs of few of the biggest Hindi films.
Karenjit Kaur Vohra aka Sunny Leone came to India to bank on her sex appeal and existing popularity and become a Bollywood actress. Firstly, Kapoor and Shivdasani are anything but sexy. Secondly, the Indian writing duo of Milap Zaveri and Mushtaq Sheikh are reminding audiences that Leone was a porn actress in the US. You don’t say!
It’s this very mentality that surfaced when Bhupendra Chaubey sat down to interview Leone and then went on to take a moral high ground to dismiss her. For many, the work Leone has done was not cool, but it is totally "kool" to have a line such as Har ladki sex object nahi hoti and then nullify it with shots of cleavage and bums as KKHH3 does.
The film proceeds to have one repulsive joke after another and include now all-too-familiar tropes of Indian sex comedies.
Andy, best known for his Bigg Boss stint, is a porn film actor whose effeminate ways are supposed to crack you up. A Thai cameraman can be slapped around for laughs. A husband is made to believe that his wife hasn’t cheated on him because he is a Sikh, and therefore, dumb.
There is actually a dance move which involves touching the side of the breasts. It must be noted that Tusshar Kapoor and Aftab Shivdasani gamely perform it. Women make orgasmic sounds at the drop of a hat. A horse, a rat, a parrot, a pug and two crows are even humiliated in the name of entertainment.
And yes, who can forget lewd puns. Shakuntala is Sucku. Khoobsurat is Boobsurat. MILF is "Maasi I Love to FB".
That your sanity is robbed is a given while watching KKHH 3. More so, when you see college boys actually laugh at some of the tacky gags. It’s troubling to see the double standards of Indian audiences which will dole out character certificates to women like Leone and then enjoy films like the Masti series which cast women so that they can play dumb and titillate men with skin show.
When someone like Leone doesn’t play that role even in real life and stands up for herself, it makes them uncomfortable. When gender disparity in salaries and also the lack of roles for women above 40 and married are major issues that need urgent attention, here we are in 2016 still humiliating women and gays.
Being audacious is just a guise, these films are actually low on intelligence quotient and promote gender stereotypes.
Next week Milap Zaveri is back again with Mastizaade and this time around, Sunny Leone, in a double role will be target of the lewd male gaze. Hopefully, a week will be enough to recuperate from the assault that is KKHH3. And there’s hope that Leone will be given an odd chance to get out of the ruckus of sex comedies.
