Not that Thalaiva fans need a reason to express their love — and subsequent madness — for the superstar, but this time, things are a bit different.

So Petta is Rajinikanth’s first Pongal release in 24 years. And that calls for double the celebration.

Ahem, the madness too.

The film comes right after the success of 2.0, the sequel to Rajinikanth’s 2010 film, Enthiran, starring Akshay Kumar. So, that Rajini fans are behaving like toddlers on a sugar rush, is a given.

What’s more — it’s Petta vs Viswasam at the box office, with two of Tamil cinema’s biggest superstars — Rajinikanth and Ajith Kumar — battling it out.

Shall.

Not.

Keep.

Calm.

Obviously, Chennai has come to a halt, like always.

One has to dress for the occasion, right? Right.

We’re seeing fireworks — literally! Umm... but what about pollution?

And some more...

Warning: This video was not shot at Dadar station. This video was shot outside a Chennai theatre — early in the morning. Talk about first-day first-show!

Some mere mortals felt the need for divine intervention and started praying for the success of Rajinikanth’s Petta.

Fools, we tell you. Don’t they know god worships Rajinikanth?

For others, Pongal came early. Five days early, to be honest.

And the pressure of living up to the wedding standards set by the likes of Anushka Sharma, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra was so high that a couple decided to get hitched right at a 'Rajini' movie theatre.

A couple that loves Thalaiva together, stays together.

2-minute silence for those ardent fans who missed the first-day first-show of Rajini's film. We feel you.

And at last the verdict is out. Thalaiva wins! We never doubted that to begin with, honestly.

Of course, we are biased.
