5 things to keep in mind before watching Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is landing in India on Friday, December 25. For most people, it will be the movie they have waited for all year - more so than Avengers 2: Age of Ultron.

For many, Star Wars is more than a film, even more than a religion - it transcends generations. But before you dive deep into the fictional galaxy George Lucas created more than 30 years ago, there are a few things you should keep in mind.

Here's a look at the trailer one last time:

1. It goes without saying that you should watch the original trilogy. By that we mean episodes 4, 5 and 6, because the Force Awakens is set 30 years after Episode 6: Return of the Jedi

2. You should also watch the Star Wars: Rebels animated series since it acts like a bridge between what happened between Episode 4 and Episode 3 and lays down the foundation for what happens in the Force Awakens.

3. Many trailers haven't shown Mark Hamill's iconic character of Luke Skywalker. Even the official trailer doesn't have him, but be prepared to watch him because he's on the starcast.

4. Ignore what has been written online about what George Lucas had planned for episodes 7-9 because Lucas doesn't have anything to do with this movie. This also means anything that's been part of the expanded universe isn't to be discounted.

5. This isn't a spoiler technically but you shouldn't expect characters like Jedi Master Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi. If there's going to be a Jedi Master, it can only be Luke Skywalker. Perhaps, even Princess Leia, as she's also an adept force. Also, both are the children of Anakin Skywalker.
