What Bollywood taught me today: Pehle us film ko dekh ke aao

It's a universally accepted fact that Balki is a good director. His first film Cheeni Kum received middling reviews, Paa made many critics wince and Shamitabh was an all-out disaster. Yet, it's a universally accepted fact that Balki is a good director.

Shamitabh has Akshara playing a character called Akshara, Amitabh playing a character called Amitabh, Dhanush playing a mute character called Daanish (don't know what happened there) and the audience playing dumb.

There are many things wrong with the film as the critics and your Facebook friends will tell you. But I come here to praise Bachchan. The man behind the voice. Being young and pretending to be younger, I haven't watched as many Bachchan films as the average blessed individual has. Especially the ones in which he has heavy duty dialogues that resound before they seep into those goose pimples.

So for me Shamitabh was just the push I needed to go and discover the magnificent actor's past works. Thanks for the inspiration, Balki.
