Why is Bollywood first wives' club jealous of Kiran Rao

The Queens of Bitchiness

It's been a little less than a decade since Kiran Rao has been married to one of India's biggest superstars and she continues to defy the "star wife" stereotype. She may be married to Aamir Khan but the director-producer clearly has her own personality and career separate from her superstar husband. While it's exactly this quality that makes Kiran such an interesting character in the homogenous world that is Bollywood, it seems like the Bollywood first wives' club doesn't care much for Kiran.

Last week, on the day a Mumbai tabloid announced that Kiran will be the new chairperson of the cash-strapped Mumbai Film Festival, a few Bollywood wives were lunching together at Bandra's Tony Pali Village Café. Over salads and sangria, the conversation veered towards Kiran's latest career move. And it didn't take long for the claws to come out. "She thinks she is better than us," sneered one mother of two while another chimed in with, "She needs to remember that whoever she is today is because of Aamir. She would be nobody without her famous husband. So, what makes her better than us?" As a very wise man somewhere said - "haters gonna hate".

The Hunt Continues...

After years of maternity leave, this A-list actress is desperate to make a comeback. Her last outing, a family drama, failed to wow both the audience and critics. Considering her superstar husband also produces films and has directed in the past, the onus of having the perfect project was on him. For over two years now, he has been going through scripts but it seems like the lady of the house can't make up her mind. She has already rejected numerous ideas that included film and television scripts. One hears not being able to zero in on that elusive comeback project is now causing some amount of friction in their already fragile relationship. While she thinks he is not putting in enough efforts for her, he thinks she is being fickle minded. It doesn't help that since she's made up with her director-producer BFF, the effervescent actress is now hoping that he might be able to help her out. Here's hoping that someone, anyone finds that "perfect" script for her pronto!

Out & About

After decades of guarding his privacy fiercely, it seems like Aditya Chopra is taking baby steps towards being seen by the press. Last week, the director-producer was photographed at his cousin Ravi Chopra's funeral. Considering the occasion, many would think that it was natural for the media shy Chopra scion to be there. While that is true, in the past Aditya was known to go to great lengths to not be photographed. "Adi just wouldn't go anywhere...no matter what the occasion, if he knew there would be photographers there. He's always managed to evade photographers but now it seems like he is a lot more comfortable," says a family member. And, this change one hears is all thanks to the love of his life. "Rani has made Adi a lot more at ease around strangers and about being in the public eye," reveals an insider.
