Arch-rivals India and Pakistan will battle it out against each other in the second T20I match of Asia Cup on August 28 in Dubai. The first match of the tournament will be played between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan on August 27.

Fans excited: The much-awaited contest has created a lot of buzz as the two sides hardly play against each other anymore. The online tickets of the match were sold within minutes of the opening of the window. It also left many fans fuming, who couldn't book their tickets as the website crashed because of the massive traffic.

Last encounter: The last time India faced Pakistan in a T20I contest was in October 2021 during T20 World Cup. India suffered a humiliating 10-wicket defeat as Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan thrashed Indian bowlers all-around the ground while chasing down a target of 152.

However, this time the Indian team looks a pretty charged after a series wins over England and South Africa. Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma and with in-form players like Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal, India can seal a victory over Pakistan.

The history between India and Pakistan in Asia Cup: India and Pakistan clashed against each other for the first time in Asia Cup in 1984. It was the inaugural edition of the tournament at United Arab Emirates (UAE). India defeated Pakistan by 54 runs in the 46-over match. India had made 188/4 and Pakistan was bowled out for 134 in 39.4 overs.

Since then, the two teams have faced each other on 14 occasions in Asia Cup. India has won eight times while Pakistan have on won five occasions. India won seven out of 13 ODI games and 1 T20I. 

In the head-to-head battle against Pakistan in T20I cricket, India have won six out of nine matches. Pakistan have won only two matches, while one game ended with no result.

India's overall record in Asia Cup: India have won the Asia Cup seven times since 1984. Overall, India has played 54 matches, out of which, they have won in 36 times. The team lost 16 matches, one match got tied and one game ended with no result. The win percentage of team India is 66.67%.

Pakistan's record: Pakistan have won 28 out of 49 matches they have played so far in Asia Cup. While the team lost 20 matches, one game ended up with no result. Pakistan's win percentage is 57.14 in the tournament.

India's 3 key players against Pakistan: 

1. Rohit Sharma: Rohit Sharma, who will open the inning with KL Rahul, has an impressive track record in T20I cricket. In the fourth T20I against West Indies in a recently concluded series, he smashed 33 off 16 balls. He has an average of 32 and a strike rate of 140.27 in T20I cricket.

2. Suryakumar Yadav: Yadav scored his maiden century in T20I against England in the third match of the series this year. He got 117 off 55 balls. Similarly, in the third ODI against West Indies, he had scored 76 off 44 balls. The Mumbai-born player looks in great form and batting up the order he has proven his mettle. Moreover, his strike rate in T20 cricket is 175.46 and his average is 37.

3. Hardik Pandya: Pandya, who had decimated the Pakistan bowling in Champions Trophy (2017), has never looked back since then. The allrounder is in a brilliant form these days. In the fifth T20I against WI, Pandya scored 28 off 16 balls. He had also put up a good show against England in the third ODI when he scored 71 off 55 balls.
