Rohit Yadav in finals with Neeraj Chopra makes it two reasons to cheer for India at World Athletics Championships

India has a another medal hope now in javelin throw in Rohit Yadav. Yadav made his World Athletics Championships debut in style as he made it to the final of the event on July 22 by finishing 11th in the qualifiers in Eugene, Oregon, US. He registered a throw of 80.42 metres in his first attempt and finished sixth in the group.

With this, Yadav joins the reigning Olympic gold medalist, Neeraj Chopra, in the finals of the tournament. Chopra cemented his position in the finals by registering a throw of 88.39 metres.

On Sunday, July 24, Chopra and Yadav will compete in the final in hope of winning a medal.

Who is Rohit Yadav? Yadav, 20, comes from Uttar Pradesh and is also a close friend of Chopra. He has a world rank of 28 and it was only because of his ranking that he qualified for the World Athletics Championships. In the last three months, Yadav has crossed the 80m mark several times.

The records of Rohit Yadav: In June 2022, Yadav won silver medal for his best throw of 82.54 m at the National Inter State Senior Athletics Championship at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai. He registered throws of 82.45 m, 82.07 m and 80.49 m in the event.
•    In April 2022, Yadav threw a remarkable 81.33 m to win the gold medal at the National Federation Cup at the Md Koya Stadium in Thenhipalam, Kerala. 
•    In May 2022, he won silver medal at the Indian Grand Prix in Bhubaneswar when he threw 80.88 m.
•    Yadav has also qualified for the Commonwealth Games 2022, which will be held in Birmingham, UK.

When and where to watch the finals: The final of the tournament will take place on Sunday (July 24) at 7:05 am IST. The match will be broadcast on Sony Ten 2 and Sony Ten 2 HD and also on the Sony LIV app.
