Man marries dog. Indian TV soap's twist will leave animal lovers whimpering

Indian soap operas are bizarre. Everything that happens in the universe where soap operas occur defies logic and common sense. On good days, the show’s protagonist, a sati-saavitri, sanskaari, Bharatiya nari will be challenged by scheming spinster aunts and promiscuous vamps sporting a tonne of makeup. On bad days, some major character in the show will turn out to be a naagin or a naag devata; better still, a housefly.

Continuing the glorious tradition of asinine plotlines and WTF moments is a show called Devanshi that airs on Colors TV. One of the show’s main antagonists, Kusum Sundari (played by Karuna Pandey) will get Mohan (played by Aamir Dalvi), one of the supporting characters, married to a dog in a soon-to-be-telecast episode. Here’s a peek:

On the show, Kusum informs Mohan of a certain "fault in his stars" that is not favourable for his well-being. What's the magical cure? He must marry a bitch. She even has a mangalsutra tied around her and sindoor adorning her forehead.

Of course, implied bestiality is no big deal for a show that has comfortably aired implied necrophilia. In an earlier episode, the show's titular character and lead Devanshi (played by Helly Shah) was shown marrying the body of Vardhan (played by Mudit Nayar). Yes.

Then again, if one did care about their sanity and general logic, or animal cruelty, one would not be watching Indian soap operas.
