Mere paas dadima hai! Why our netas must always find that old lady toiling away!

If you love kids and grandparents, yes, you are our leader!

Old people in India are so helpless.

They are often dumped by their own children, sometimes at the Kumbh Mela at that.

If not, then they are often tortured in their own homes.

Yes — our movies and advertisements paint this sorry geriatric picture every now and then, which bears a resemblance — to some extent — to real life as well.

But what they do not touch upon at all is this curious case of the old man (also woman) and the sea (of voters) — how they always work like magic.

These are basically the two essentials for every politician to contest elections in India.

Why?

Because people who love kids and old people are the most soft-hearted ones.

Duh!

They can’t lie. They are incapable of breaking promises.

They, despite their privileged, entitled, clearly plushy lifestyle, have empathy for the toiling masses.

Beyond the political chessboard lies a pure heart made of gold — exactly the reply to ‘Hamara Neta Kaisa Ho?’

This concept must be the mother of all photo-ops ahead of an election. And the Lok Sabha election being the mother of all elections, it’s no wonder that most candidates have a photo with a toiling old man/woman (of motherly, if not grandmotherly age) who should actually have retired from such toil long ago — but hasn’t.

Why, you may ask?

Because they were precisely waiting for their dear ideal leaders to come to them a couple of days before elections, pose with them, give them a sincere assurance to put an end to all their hardships, collect their blessings — and then vanish into thin air.

This is the cycle of moksha that keeps our old people going.

Before you think this is a personal attack upon Congress president Rahul Gandhi or BJP leader Hema Malini for those recent photos which took social media by storm, you are wrong.

This is actually a soft political litmus test that you must pass if you are in Indian politics.

This is an extension of Mere paas ma hai.

Mere paas dadi ma hai.
