National Boyfriend Day, and other ridiculous days we can do away with

On National put-your-feet-up-and-stare-outside-the-window Day, I've decided to go all out on social media and do what the millennials do.

Of course, the aforementioned day doesn't exist, but I almost got you there. It doesn't take us more than a moment to believe that if it sounds like a ridiculous and pointless day, it must actually exist. And social media leaves enough candy trails for us to fall for it, too.

Like, for instance, let's look at Sonam Kapoor Ahuja's latest Instagram post. "Happy #nationalboyfriendday to @anandahuja who used to be the best boyfriend and that's why got promoted to fiancé and then husband. Love you forever and ever," wrote Sonam, along with a throwback picture of the happy couple.

So, there's been a proper performance evaluation, appraisal, and the whole nine yards before they tied the knot? And all so she could remind us of how boyfriend-less and (not quite) miserable we are on national boyfriend day?

But this isn't even the most pointless day I have ever come across.

Here's my concise list of utter rubbish days that you ought not to know of or celebrate.

International Beer Day: August 2nd

Now, why on earth would we dedicate just one day to this golden goodness? Every day is pretty much beer day, don't be restrictive. On the other hand, this is some serious racist behaviour towards alcohol. What if I'm in the mood for rum? Or wine?

National Eggs Benedict Day: April 16th

Granted that eggs in hollandaise sauce are heavenly, but so are your humble sunny-side-ups. So, why the favouritism? We can talk when it's National Benedict Cumberbatch Day, for nothing less will do.

National Honesty Day: April 30th

Are you seriously telling me I have to be completely honest on this day and I cannot lie about dieting or going to the gym? Or that I will reach in five when I haven't even decided on what I'm going to wear?

National Absurdity Day: November 20th

Life, as it were, is absurd. We're all waiting for our respective Godot. And we will keep waiting on November 21st, 22nd, 23rd... so on and so forth. So, to expect us to restrict our absurdity to just one day is, frankly, quite absurd.

National Nothing Day: January 16th

What's in a name? Well, everything and 'nothing' at the same time. If it's nothing, then why celebrate it with something?
