Hello, you fool: A mimic's phone call gets 29 babus transferred in Tamil Nadu

Amid all the madness plaguing our country right now, a mimicry artist tries to restore sense with his supreme talent. Though, not altogether in a way anyone would quite imagine. Tamil Nadu’s Savari Muthu, a mimic, found himself behind bars after police arrested him on Monday. What is interesting lies in the why of it all.

Muthu, in a very Charlie Chaplin like ploy to create pandemonium, mimicked the voice of Tamil Nadu’s electricity minister P Thangamani, and got government officials transferred from one place to another in the Thermal Power Unit.

This amazing human, while pretending to be the minister, made a call and transferred assistant engineer Jayakumar from the power production unit to the coal handling section. He also placed Jayakumar under a week’s suspension for not performing his duties properly.

According to the police, "He was advised by higher officials to approach the minister to cancel the suspension order." And that’s exactly what he did. When Jayakumar approached the minister, he realised that the minister had, in fact, not made the calls at all.

Suspecting foulplay, Thangamani ordered a probe on the matter. The officials along with the help of the Mettur police started examining the call details from the mobile phones of officials. They soon stumbled upon a mimicry artist by the name of Savari Muthu from Dindigul district, who had contacted one of the officials in the unit.

"He mimicked the minister's voice and ordered the transfer of Jayakumar. He had also ordered the transfer of 28 other employees working in the unit over the last few months," the police said to the Times of India.

Following his confession statement, the police arrested Muthu. The accused, however, has given no explanation as to why he made these calls to get the officials transferred.
