Are Indian nerds finally becoming hot?

Even as Asin Thottukamal strikes gold with an engagement to ten-years-her-senior Micromax founder Rahul Sharma, it is clearly phase two of the entrepreneurial hotshots that may be identified by starlets making a beeline for them. Rahul Sharma, who made his fortunes off setting up India’s first indigenous mobile phone company, is a mechanical engineer, and is reportedly friends with Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna who introduced him to Asin, and espouses the casual work atmosphere that this generation of IT hotshots like to fling around.

You have Karishma Kapoor now dating pharma recluse Sandeep Toshniwal, and Housing.com’s Rahul Yadav is for some reason, even as he remains supine and mannerless under his bed covers during an interview, interesting to the women who are content to have a conversation with him in that position. A lesser woman would have walked, so there is clearly something quite fascinating to women about eccentric men with the moolah, or the potential for it, in any case. There’s clearly no accounting for taste when there’s big success involved. You have Aanchal Kumar married to shaadi.com entrepreneur Anupam Mittal. We’re just hearing that cutie Kunal Bahl is married which breaks our hearts, but there are others just as cute and just as rich out there! Down south you have Trisha Krishnan dating businessman Varun Manian but our favourite is Tapasee Pannu, who is the tech entrepreneur in the couple, dating Danish badminton champ Mathias Boe.

Phase one, if you will remember, ended with Hotmail's once-Aishwarya Rai-obsessed millionaire Sabeer Bhatia who eventually married Tanya Sharma, heiress of the Baidyanath ayurvedic group. That one didn’t end so good.

But in case you needed an alert post the geeky-looking Shahid Kapoor shaadi, the nerdy look is in. Which means the yuppie is trending, the crew neck T-shirts with a chequered layer of shirt just got hot, spectacles are not a deal breaker, a sloppy haircut can be kinda cute, and it’s the workaholic that wins big.

Move over stud, the nerd is back.
