Why women shouldn't be scared of weight training

I see many women running endlessly on a treadmill or doing extensive amounts of cardio to either tighten their body or lose the unwanted body fat. If you were to ask them to train with weights, they will be very hesitant and quick to point out how it will make them look bulkier and bigger.

Sadly, this myth among women is preventing them from achieving their fitness goals. Especially women who want to tone their bodies up. Here is the truth! Training with weights scientifically can't make women bulkier, because women don't have testosterone, the male hormone responsible for muscle growth. On the contrary, there are many benefits of weight training for women. Some of these are:

Benefit # 1

Great for bone health

Women tend to lose bone density with age, which may lead to osteoporosis, a disease which weakens the bones, especially after menopause as a result of lower levels of estrogen. Training with weights can help a woman combat this disease with ease without much bone damage.

Benefit # 2

Great for fat loss

Weight training is even more effective than any cardio routine, because it not only burns calories during workouts but also after the workout session is over for up to 48 hours.

Benefit # 3

Maintaining curves

Running too much on a treadmill or outdoors can lead to not only fat loss, but also quality muscle mass which makes the woman looks flatter. That is why you would find women who do too much of cardio exercise have a leaner torso compared to their lower body.

Benefit # 4

Sound sleep

Weight training can have a great effect on your sleep too. It improves the quality of your sleep, which can minimise stress levels.

I have captured some more interesting points on weight training in my video blog below. Do watch that as well.
