Dyson is making headphones that will clean the air you breathe in

Tired of forgetting to carry your face mask and headphones all the time? Or confused about the headphones-mask or mask-headphones order before you step out? Or, maybe, you just want the air you are breathing in to be cleaner? Then Dyson may just have the solution for you.

Currently in prototype stage, Dyson is all set to release a pair of over-ear, noise cancelling headphones that are attached to an air-purifying mouth 'visor'. Known as Dyson Zone air-purifying headphones, the intention behind the development of such headphones is to help deal with air pollution. Basically, it will help you take in non-polluted air.

The development of these headphones has taken 6 years and they are programmed to 'breathe as a human does'. The visor is connected to the headphones through magnets. (That's pretty freaky, if you ask us; or Bane, maybe?).

Chief Engineer Jake Dyson said, "Air pollution is a global problem - it affects us everywhere we go.The Dyson Zone purifies the air your breathe on the move. And unlike face masks, it delivers a plume of fresh air without touching your face, using high-performance filters and two miniaturised air pumps."

Each side of the headphones has a motor, fan and air filters. The filters suck the air and clean it by capturing allergens and pollutants. The now-clean air is then sent to the nose and mouth through the visor. The company says that the Dyson Zone is 97% effective in its functioning.

The headphones have 4 purification settings:

  • Low
  • Medium
  • High
  • Auto

The headphones use sensors to track breathing of the wearer and then switch between the purification settings. The headphones come along with a face mask, to place within the visor and an app that will inform the wearer when to change the filter.

The Dyson Zone comes with three noise-cancellation options:

  • Isolation
  • Conversation
  • Transparency

The Dyson Zone boasts of a contact-free visor, a wearable air purification system and high fidelity audio.

This is the first time Dyson has released a wearable and their own headphones. The price of this product is not known as of now. Dyson Zone is expected to globally launch in Autumn 2022.

Meanwhile, this is what we expect we would look like wearing the Dyson Zone:
