DailyOh! What AIIMS team found in Sushant case, to what Priyanka Gandhi said over Hathras victim’s death

Protests were held at Safdarjung Hospital today because the 20-year-old gang-rape victim from UP’s Hathras, admitted four days ago, died today. She had her tongue slashed and several bones broken during the gang rape. If that was not enough, the UP Police dilly-dallied the filing of the case and shifting the victim to Delhi for treatment.

Fractured spinal cord left her paralysed and she struggled to breathe. The four accused, who belong to upper caste and hail from the victim’s village, have been arrested and sent to jail. Since the victim has died, they will also face murder charges in addition to the gang-rape and attempt to murder charges.

Congress leader PL Punia, Dalit leader Chandrashekhar Azad and many others protested from Safdajung Hospital in Delhi to the victim's village in Hathras. The Congress has said the Hathras victim could have survived had the police acted on time and had the UP government given her immediate medical attention.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi has alleged women are not safe under Yogi Adityanath’s government. The government has said action, which was prompt, has been taken.

Action in Sushant Singh Rajput’s case is awaited. The analysis of 20 per cent of Sushant Singh Rajput’s viscera, which had been preserved and handed over to the AIIMS team to look into the causes of the actor’s death, has proved there was no poisoning. The AIIMS team has called it ‘conclusive finding’.

So is it now ‘conclusively’ proven that Sushant wasn’t killed? The findings that have come to light so far are inconclusive about it because while poisoning has been ruled out, strangulation is not. That is for the CBI to confirm and deny because the AIIMS panel has submitted the report to CBI.

What does CBI have to say about the findings? The same thing that the AIIMS team has to say. “AIIMS and CBI are in agreement on Sushant Singh Rajput's death case findings,” said Dr Sudhir Gupta, who headed the AIIMS team. But Gupta added that to say ‘the final thing’ on the death needs more deliberations.

CBI is deliberating. Farmers are protesting. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is saying what he has been saying: Farmers are being misled by the opposition. To assure farmers that they are being misled on MSP and mandis, the Modi government has ordered ‘immediate’ procurement of crops. The procurement was to start on October 1.

But a barrier-free buying and selling of crops, which Modi’s Farm Bills promise, has hit its first barrier in a BJP-ruled state – the state of Haryana. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has refused to procure crops from other states saying that Haryana has to care about the farmers of Haryana and we “don't have to worry about other states”. But ask Modi and Khattar about the Farm Bills and you’ll find both are in agreement. What is the conclusive finding? More deliberations are required to arrive at any conclusion.

What does a normal Body Mass Index (BMI) conclude about your health? Nothing conclusive. We will tell you why after we tell you why we are talking BMI.

The National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) has added 5 kg to the ideal weight of Indians. What was the ideal weight? 60 kg for men and 55 kg for women. This was set in 2010. In 2020, the reference weight has been revised to 65 kg for men and 60 kg for women. Even the ideal height has been revised. The height for a reference an Indian man was 5.6 feet (171 cm). For the Indian woman, it was 5 feet (152cm). The revised reference height is 5.8 feet (177cm) for a man and 5.3 feet (162cm) for a woman.

Why have people become taller and heavier? Scientists say because nutritional food intake has gone up. The BMI will now take into account the revised ideal to ascertain the new normal.

But the BMI calculation may not always give you a conclusive view of your health. That is because not all weighing machines can distinguish between weight and weight. We mean what portion of that weight of your body is fat weight, how much is muscle weight and how much is the bone weight. Fat weight is unhealthy weight and so your ‘ideal weight’ may not reflect ideal health.

Talking of health, today is World Heart Day, which is marked to remind people that cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the leading cause of deaths in the world. Close to 18,00,000 people die due to heart ailments each day. There is no conclusive data on how many suffer heartbreaks each year.

Interestingly, the Latin root for courage and heart, the Word Of The Day, is much the same – cor. Can the heart give you courage? That is a body game controlled by the mind. The heart you know sets the blood pumping mechanism as directed by the mind. But if the heart doesn’t follow minds instructions the body’s functioning is upset. No, we aren’t referring to heartbreaks but heart ailments called as cardiovascular diseases.

The Oxford dictionary defines the heart as the organ in the chest (usually on the left in humans) that sends blood around the body. In the world of romance, the heart has been overrated and wrongly accused of doing things it ain’t even capable of doing. Also, no one can steal your heart unless you have lost control over the mind. Protect your mind and for that take care of overall health, which includes mental health, controlled by the mind. A complex web of interconnected functions.

But not as complex as the Sushant death case in which Rhea Chakraborty was arrested by the NCB on September 8. She is yet to get bail. Actor Arbaaz Khan has filed another case in the case, where virtually everyone has been named. Khan has filed a defamation case after his name was dragged in the Sushant case and the Disha Salian case, which some have been saying are one and the same case.

Khan is angry and has filed the case against Vibhor Anand and Sakshi Bhandari, and unknown defendants who have reportedly been dragging his name in posts, messages, tweets, videos, interviews, communications and correspondence.

Khan is not the only one angry. The Indian Army is also angry over the money spent on faulty ammunition. In an internal report, which has now become external, to the Ministry of Defence, the Army said that funds spent on faulty ammunition between 2014 and 2020 could have been used to buy 100 155-mm medium artillery guns. How much did the faulty ammunition cost? Close to Rs 960,00,00,000.

How much did a 0009 number plate cost? Rs 10,10,000. In July, a registration number of the same series was bought for Rs 7,10,000. You can buy a car for that amount but some prefer to buy the car’s number plate for it because shauq badi cheez hai.

If your shauq is reading, we have a book recommendation for you - Foundation by Issac Asimov.

On that note, we take your leave today. Tomorrow verdict in the 28-year-old Babri masjid demolition case will be pronounced. We will get you the details so be back tomorrow.

Bye for today.
