NDA's shoddy report card will put Modi ministers out of work

The day after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was routed in the Bihar Assembly Elections, there were news reports that prime minister is likely to drop some of the central ministers from Bihar. Reports say that prime minister may drop few ministers who have failed to perform in the Assembly elections. The timing of this reshuffle is yet to be decided, but it will likely be held after the winter session of Parliament. And the reason behind this delay is Prime Minister Narendra Modi's jammed-packed calendar.

There were 30 ministers who campaigned in Bihar and 11 were in the state to oversee the campaign. But those who are from Bihar are more likely to feel the heat. A source within the BJP said, "The assessment of a minister could involve both performance in the ministry and the Bihar election." It means there would be a three-fold assessment of the ministers - their performance as ministers as well as poll managers and campaigners would be evaluated along with the success rate of the BJP in their respective constituencies during the Bihar polls.

Here's a look at how the NDA has performed in the parliamentary constituencies of its ministers:

Radha Mohan Singh

He is Union minister of agriculture, who won from East Champaran in the general elections with the margin of around two lakh votes.

 HARSIDHI (SC) RJD
 GOVINDGANJ LJP
 KESARIA RJD
 KALYANPUR BJP
 PIPRA BJP
 MOTIHARI BJP

His Lok Sabha constituency has six Assembly segments and the NDA has won four of them. Of these, three went to the BJP and one to the LJP. The BJP-led alliance's strike rate is 66.66 per cent here.

Ram Vilas Paswan

The Union minister of consumer affairs, food and public distribution and chief of LJP, Ram Vilas Paswan represents the Hajipur Lok Sabha constituency. He won during the Lok Sabha polls with a margin of 2.25 lakh votes.

 MAHUA RJD
 RAJA PAKAR (SC) RJD
 RAGHOPUR RJD
 MAHNAR JD(U)

The Hajipur Lok Sabha constituency has six Assembly segments. Here the NDA has got two seats and its strike rate is 33.33 per cent. Out of these two seats, one went to the Paswan's LJP and the other to ally BJP.

Rajiv Pratap Rudy

He is the minister of state for skill development and entrepreneurship with independent charge and minister of state for parliamentary affairs. An MP from Saran, he defeated Rabri Devi with the margin of 41,000 votes during the general elections of 2014.

 Marhaura RJD
 Chapra BJP
 Garkha (SC) RJD
 Amnour BJP
 Parsa RJD
 Sonepur RJD

In Saran, two seats went to the BJP and four to RJD, leaving Rudy's BJP with a strike rate of just 33.33 per cent.

Giriraj Singh

Giriraj Singh, minister of state for micro, small and medium enterprises, is BJP's Lok Sabha MP from Nawada. He was elected during the general elections with the margin of over 1.40 Lakh votes.

BARBIGHAINC
RAJAULI (SC) RJD
 HISUA BJP
 NAWADA RJD
 GOBINDPUR INC
 WARISALIGANJ BJP

The NDA managed to get just two assembly seats from Nawada's six seats in Bihar's 2015 polls with a strike rate of 33.33 per cent.

Ram Kripal Yadav

The minister of state for drinking water and sanitation in the NDA, Ram Kripal Yadav represents the Patliputra Lok Sabha constituency. He defeated Lalu Yadav's daughter Misha Bharti with a margin of more than 40,000 votes in the general elections.

 MANER RJD
 PHULWARI (SC) JD(U)
 MASAURHI (SC) RJD
 PALIGANJ RJD
 BIKRAM INC

Out of six assembly segments in Patliputra, the BJP could manage just one seat. Its strike rate is a mere 16.66 per cent.

Upendra Kushwaha

Upendra Kushwaha represents Karakat Lok Sabha constituency and is minister of state for human resource development. He also heads the Rashtriya Lok Samta Party (RSLP). He won the Lok Sabha seat with the margin of one lakh votes.

 NOKHA RJD
 DEHRI RJD
 KARAKATRJD
 GOHBJP
 OBRA RJD
 NABINAGARJD(U)

Here too the NDA has got just one Assembly seat, that is, of Goh and its strike rate is 16.66 per cent.

A thorough analysis shows how miserable the performance of the NDA has been in the Lok Sabha constituencies of its ministers. The best performing constituency has been Radha Mohan Singh's while the worst have been Upendra Kushwaha and Ram Kripal Yadav. If this is a yardstick for punishment, the latter are in the danger zone.
