Tintin tears up in solidarity for Brussels, image goes viral

The twin attacks on Belgian capital Brussels has led to innovative shows of solidarity and defiance, both in equal measure. But what stands out as the singular mode of collective bonding is the images of Tintin, the famous comic book character created by cartoonist Herge (George Remi) in 1929, weeping for Brussels.

The attacks which have caused widespread panic among European nations and the world at large, have sprung responses on social media ranging from more xenophobia to solid compassion for the victims and their families. In fact, tweeting images of a Tintin in tears has impacted many, as have the pictures of Snowy, Captain Haddock and others in various stages of distress.

Many wished that the world most loved investigative reporter were not just a cartoon character, but was a real person who could have unearthed the causes behind these heinous attacks. As it happens, life imitates art more often than not.
