While 'free' Indian media cribs about trolls, 'bold' Pakistani media has to deal with guns

Pakistani newspaper Dawn stands by Cyril Almeida's military-civilian divide story (India Today)

A leading Pakistani newspaper today said it stood by its story that exposed a divide between the country's civilian and military leadership over terrorists.

A Dawn editorial also urged the government to immediately remove the name of Cyril Almeida, who wrote the story, from the Exit Control List (ECL), which prevents him from travelling abroad.

The Dawn reported on October 6 that the civilian leadership had bluntly told the military that Pakistan would face international isolation unless the armed forces acted against terrorist groups.

The report also spoke about a nasty exchange at a meeting between Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif, a brother of prime minister Nawaz Sharif, and a senior military officer.
