Delhi polls: People prefer BJP's development to AAP's anarchy

The poll dates for Delhi have been announced. On February 7, around 1.30 crore voters of the capital of the country will cast their ballot. In my view, the Bharatiya Janata Party is not only the frontrunner, but a clear winner.

There are several reasons which led to this conclusion. The foremost is that people of this country are in a mood to vote for a positive agenda. Earlier in 2013, there was a strong anti-incumbency wave which led to the historical drubbing of the Congress in Delhi. But after the Lok Sabha polls, we have seen that in states like Maharashtra, Haryana, Jharkhand and even Jammu and Kashmir, the  BJP's agenda of "development" and "good governance" has found a strong connect with common people. AAP was running a negative campaign in Delhi and was completely rejected by voters. Why? They failed to understand that the people of Delhi are aspirational. They are looking for solutions and not those who blow problems out of proportion blaming everything that goes wrong on someone else. The fact that Arvind Kejriwal was not ready to fulfil his responsibility was evident in the way he ran away after 49 days of government. Coming back to the issue of BJP's strengths, it is interesting to see how the party has been able to establish a connect with the common people, which is constantly being strengthened.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has led the BJP's efforts to find and strengthen this connect. Both in style and  substance, his credibility remains much higher than any other political leader in this country. People trust him. During the last seven months of this government, his credibility has skyrocketed as people have seen words translating into action. Issues like drug addiction which bother common people have been raised in his "Mann ki Baat" with utmost sincerity.

The BJP has the most credible face in the form of prime minister Modi. And the way the NDA government has worked on a war footing to control inflation and address basic issues like cleanliness have really made the people of the country believe that here is a government which is making a sincere effort to deliver.

In sharp contrast we have the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress. Both of them are running an utterly negative campaign against the BJP. Their utterances and political stands on issues of importance to common people have been obstructionist which are unlikely to find an emotional connect with common people. While Congress itself seems to have ruled its chances out for Delhi polls, AAP is pursuing a completely negative agenda in stark contrast to BJP's positive agenda of development of  Delhi.

Kejriwal, who earlier claimed that he was an anarchist is perhaps the most discredited politician around and this is going to hurt AAP in these polls. The reason for this nosedive in his credibility is that he has taken so many U-turns, a feat for which he could perhaps find a place in any record book. This is the ordeal he has inflicted on the hapless voters of Delhi who were duped by his imposed honesty in 2013.

AAP represents a "selfish band of leaders" who are so full of themselves that they refuse to see the writing on the wall which is: "People prefer development to anarchy".
