How many dengue deaths will it take?

ICMR identifies Delhi areas prone to dengue

In a bid to tackle the dengue menace, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) is targeting mosquitoes infected with dengue virus.

The council has started using a method with which mosquitoes infected with dengue virus can be found and the spread of disease can be contained in localities where the intensity of disease is high.

"We have tried to find out the dengue virus - Minimum Infection Rate (MIR) - in mosquitoes which is directly proportional to the spread of dengue. The percentage and rate of Aedes mosquitoes with dengue virus in different areas indicate the risk level, ie high, medium or low. Higher the MIR, higher will be the risk of dengue transmission," said BN Nagpal, scientist with ICMR.
