Navjot Singh Sidhu has resigned from his position as the president of Punjab Congress. He tweeted his resignation letter which he has addressed to Sonia Gandhi. The letter reads, “The collapse of a man's character stems from the compromise corner, I can never compromise on Punjab's future and the agenda for the welfare of Punjab. Therefore, I hereby resign as the President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. Will continue to serve the Congress." No statement has yet been made by Sonia Gandhi.
‘TRUST SIDHU’: Punjab CM Channi has said that he was not aware of Sidhu’s resignation. He also said he trusts Sidhu and will talk to him.
WHY: It is being reported that there are multiple reasons for his resignation: him not being named the new CM of Punjab, crucial decisions were not being taken as per his wishes, he was unhappy with the cabinet portfolios and had realised that Congress may lose polls. It is also being reported that he had pushed his own name against Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa for Deputy CM but had no success.
‘NOT FIT FOR PUNJAB’: This announcement comes a few hours after it was reported that Capt. Amarinder Singh was visiting Delhi and could meet up Amit Shah, potentially to join BJP. The Captain has tweeted, “I told you so…he is not a stable man and not fit for the border state of Punjab” in response to Sidhu’s announcement.
