Modi govt paying the price for unrealistic promises on black money

The Narendra Modi government has only itself to blame for being on the receiving end of a united Opposition attack on the black money issue in Parliament. During the Lok Sabha elections as well as in his Mann ki Baat earlier this month,  Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed to bring back every penny stashed abroad and even went to the extent of promising Rs 10-15 lakh for every Indian. Such unrealistic claims only end up providing ammunition to the Opposition.

Brisk voting in Jammu and Kashmir a sign of change in the state

One cannot praise the voters of Jammu and Kashmir enough for coming out to vote with such enthusiasm, braving not just boycott calls but also the extremely harsh winter. Obviously, the BJP and the PDP, the two frontrunners in these elections would see the high turnout as a sign of change in the state. Irrespective of the result, the Election Commission must be commended for making the election possible in such harsh conditions.

Sitara Devi, the brightest star in Kathak, passes away

Prominent Kathak danseuse Sitara Devi died in Mumbai on Tuesday after prolonged illness. She was 94. Sitara Devi was on ventilator and her condition was serious on Monday while she was admitted to the Jaslok Hospital. A recipient of prestigious awards like Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Padma Shri and Kalidas Samman, Sitara Devi was a Kathak legend and is known to have brought the genre to Bollywood.
