Making sense of breaking stories

Three North East youths die mysterious deaths in the last 48 hours in Delhi

In three separate incidents, youths from the North East have been found dead in mysterious circumstances in different parts of Delhi in the last 48 hours. On Thursday night a youth from the North East died after falling from the staircase in Munirka, earlier in the day, 23 year old Joy Shuni from Manipur was found dead in his apartment in Malviya Nagar. A day earlier, 33-year-old man, also from Manipur, was found with his throat slashed at his home in Kotla Mubarakpur. Though there appears to be no connection between the three deaths, there is little doubt that these would add to the anxiety of people from the North East residing in Delhi.

MS Dhoni is lucky not to be from Gujarat

After skipping voting day during the Lok Sabha election earlier this year, team India skipper and Election Commission brand ambassador Mahendra Singh Dhoni may skip voting in the Jharkhand assembly elections as well. He is scheduled to leave for Australia on a two-month tour late November. Of course, no one can find fault with Dhoni as the entire country would want the World Cup-winning captain to be on the top of his game in this crucial tour. Dhoni can also thank his stars that he doesn't hail from Gujarat, a state which has recently passed a law entailing compulsory voting. We wonder what will happen to Gujarati members of Team India, Ravindra Jadeja and Cheteshwar Pujara.

Steps being taken to protect India from Ebola

The health ministry has done the right thing by asking the ministry of external affairs to issue circulars to all countries to quarantine for three months any Indian who is treated for the virus or is suspected of being infected. The health ministry has also advised people travelling from countries affected by the virus to extensively use condoms or refrain from sexual contacts that could transfer body fluids. The ministry must also do more to create greater public awareness about Ebola.
