Exit polls 2017: A landslide win for BJP in Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh which saw seven-phased elections to its 403-seat Assembly is really the mother of all the 2017 Assembly polls. It is not only a portal to 2019 general elections, it is equally the referendum on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s own political momentum and capital, which will decide which are the factors that would decide the outcome of Lok Sabha polls.

India Today-Axis My India exit poll predicts about 251-279 seats for the BJP and allies in Uttar Pradesh. The Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance would take home about 88-112 seats out the 403, while the Bahujan Samaj Party would get only 28 -42 seats.

Of the SP-Congress alliance, the Akhilesh Yadav-led SP would garner the most of the shared seats, at about 78-97, while Rahul Gandhi-driven Congress would get a dismal 10-15 seats.

Phases one, three, four, six and seven have been magnificent for the BJP, while phases two and five have seen comparatively slower performance from the party. Vice-versa for the SP-Congress alliance, which did well in phase two.
