The end of the day results reflect the early gains BJP made in the morning. The saffron party started the day strong after leading on mayoral seats in the Uttar Pradesh municipal elections, the BSP is second.  “The counting of ballots has started in all districts on a peaceful note. The results are likely by afternoon,” State Election Commission said.

In Gorakhpur and Saharanpur, the postal ballots were counted first. Votes cast via electronic voting machines (EVMs) were tallied later. Meanwhile, all of the 652 civic areas will be under prohibition for the day as counting progresses in UP's local elections.
