OnePlus 3T is perfect, but not when Nexus 6P is being sold on a huge discount

Of late, the market has been flooded with a whole variety of cheap smartphones that have decent specs but are definitely not living up to any kind of real standards. These are phones that appeal to the middle classes, fall within the price-range of Rs 8-15,000 and are just average. While they make it easier for a larger demographic to own smartphones, they also discourage people from buying the genuinely good phones that are otherwise way too expensive.

In between the ultra-cheap Reliance Lyf phones and the uber-expensive Google Pixel, comes the (almost) perfect mid-range phone that you can lay your hands on: the OnePlus 3T. The 3T has a few but essential upgrades to offer when you compare it to its predecessor, the Oneplus 3.

While the OnePlus 3 came with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, and the 3T comes with the top-of-the-line 821 which adds to the phone’s VR and camera capabilities.

The phone boasts of a lot of good things, including a new 128 GB variant, a much larger 3,400 mAh battery, and with both the primary and the secondary cameras at 16 megapixels each, this phone is surely a buy that is completely worth it. Moreover, the dash charging technology makes the phone only that much more impressive.

So, if everything is this hunky dory, why not just declare the 3T the ultimate midrange smartphone there is?

Well, the OnePlus 3T runs on Android Marshmallow 6.0.1, when Nougat has been available for some time now. Not something phone brands should be doing with a year-end launch.

But that aside, the phone is nearly unbeatable by any of its competitors, in that price range. The OnePlus 3T starts at Rs 29,999 for the 64GB version, while the 128GB variant will cost Rs 34,999. Sadly for the OnePlus 3T, however, there suddenly exists a phone in the market (much out of its league) that can beat the 3T at its current price: the Huawei Nexus 6P.

Yes, the Nexus 6P is usually a more expensive phone. But thanks to a Flipkart offer, you can get it for almost the same price as the OnePlus 3T. So, why should one not buy the Nexus instead of the OnePlus 3T? Well. There actually is no good reason for that. In fact, once the prices come into play (the discounted one, of course), the 6P is hands-down, the better deal.

According to a comparison done by India Today, the Nexus 6P outranks the 3T in almost every aspect other than the front-facing camera and the motherboard.

The OnePlus 3T ships with Android Marshmallow-based OxygenOS at a time when the Nexus 6P has already been updated to Android Nougat. The Nexus 6P has a bigger battery (3,450 mAh). The Nexus has a 5.7-inch screen quad-HD AMOLED display, compared to the 5.5-inch fullHD AMOLED display of the OnePlus 3T. And, it is of little consequence specs-wise, but the Nexus is a far more handsome looking phone.

Although, without the beauty filter of a huge discount offer, the OnePlus is without a doubt, the smartphone you should go for, as compared with the Nexus 6P. So, unless you manage to avail the discount, there is hardly any reason for you to buy the Nexus 6P.
