OnePlus 6: What the rumours say already

Barely months after the launch of arguably one of the biggest success stories of the year, Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus looks all set to bring its next flagship to town.

Much confusion prevails over the name and launch date of the device, with some reports claiming the company will directly bring a new OnePlus 6 phone early next year, while others saying the next flagship to be the 5Twhich could be launched in November, 2017.

What these reports do agree on, however, are the expected specs and features of the phone. Here's a look at what the ever-churning rumour mill has to say about the upcoming One Plus.

Bigger display

OnePlus 5 came with the same 1080p panel found on the previous generation 3T. The display on the phone was 5.5-inch Full HD AMOLED capable of pumping out 401 pixels per inch. The screen was covered with a sheet of Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 to keep it safe from scratches and minor drops.

However, reports suggest the next OnePlus handset will see the smartphone maker ditch the trusted panel for a bigger and better display. The OnePlus 5T/6 is expected to be the first device from the company to feature a Quad HD panel. But the company won't just stop there.

The display will also be bigger at six inches; however, it will not reflect on the phone's overall size as this new panel will be more in line with the edge-to-edge bezel-less displays found on the likes of LG-V30, iPhone X, and the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2.

Under the hood

The OnePlus 6 is also expected to ditch the current generation Snapdragon 835 and skip the 836 SoC in favour of Snapdragon 845 that is expected to be launched by the chipset maker in December. If the phone does come out early next year, it could very well be the first to feature this new chipset.

In terms of RAM, rumours point towards a 8GB RAM module on board, while internal storage could start 64GB and be capped at 128GB.

Camera

For the OnePlus 5, the company partnered with DxO to bring substantially-improved cameras to its flagship. It also significantly upgraded the camera sensors on the flagship to improve upon its picture-taking prowess. The phone featured a dual camera setup with the main camera being a 16-megapixel Sony unit, while the second camera a 20-megapixel Sony sensor.

With the next flagship, there is no reason to believe that the company will not better these specs. Though not much is known at the moment, expect the Megapixel count to go up and optical image stablisation hardware to be added to the camera.

Battery

There's also room for an upgrade when it comes to the battery. The OnePlus 3 was launched with a 3,000mAh battery, while the 3T came with a 3,400 mAh. The OnePlus 5 — with a more power efficient SoC — came with a slightly smaller 3,300mAh battery pack.

However, expect the next OnePlus device to buck the trend, for it could come with an upgrade that would see the battery being bumped up by at least a few hundred milliamperes.
