What you should do if you can't register for Prime on Jio's website

Even though an announcement was made late Thursday evening about the Jio Summer Surprise offer being called back on the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) “advice”, the Mukesh Ambani led company managed to get the upper hand of the deal.

Thanks to the cleverly worded notice issued by Jio, people still have an opportunity to avail the offer.

As mentioned in the statement, users who had already subscribed to the Summer Surprise offer, prior to this announcement, will avail the benefits of this offer. Additionally, Jio stated it would get rid of the offer "as soon as [it was] operationally feasible, over the next few days". In all likelihood, this announcement was made near the weekend in hopes that their "operational feasibility" would receive at least two bonus days, which would give more people to subscribe to Jio’s Summer Special offer in the meanwhile.

But while the Summer Special offer both exists and doesn’t at the same time, Jio is ready to dazzle its customer base with more irresistible (read cheap) offers. According to Reliance Jio website’s homepage, “We are updating our tariff packs and will be soon introducing more exciting offers."

These offers are expected to come after April 15, which is now the last day to register for Prime, according to their extended offer. Weirdly enough, despite Prime registration’s last date being pushed further, the option is no longer available for purchase on the Jio website and the MyJio app, even though one can still buy booster packs and other recharges there.

What one now has to do, if they still wish to register for Jio Prime, is to use the Jio Money app. All you have to do is go to the Jio Money app, open the browse plans menu, and then go to the Jio Prime tab. Once there, you will be given two options for recharges: Rs 402 (Rs 99 for Jio Prime plus Rs 303 for the recharge), and Rs 598 (Rs 99 plus Rs 499). Select the one you want and you’re done.

This lets you avail free services for three more months, as it is still a part of the Jio Summer Surprise offer. In fact, since you paid for the entire thing with Jio Money, you’ll get a Rs 50 cash back. In the off chance that you do miss the April 15 deadline for registering with Prime, you can still get the Prime subscription for free by transacting both the Rs 99 Prime recharge and the value pack separately through Jio Money. You get a Rs 50 cash back on each transaction, which basically means you aren’t really paying the Rs 99 Prime fee.

This tricky move is also a great way to make sure people know about Jio Money.

Post-demonetisation, e-wallets have become more popular than ever, and with Paytm dominating a market that has become extremely lucrative all of a sudden, everyone wants the lion’s share. The sure shot way to make one’s mark in this ultra-competitive market is to offer the customers something unique — something that gives them an edge over the others.

Jio is making sure it becomes a one-stop shop for all things telecom.
