Tech tips for surviving the Bacardi NH7 weekender

The Delhi leg of the NH7 Weekender starts tomorrow, and arguably, it is the biggest leg of India’s best music festival. Surviving the two day long festival is a painful prospect as the event happens on the outskirts of Delhi at the famed Buddh International Circuit. Here are a few tech tips that can help you have a more enjoyable and trouble-free weekender:

1.) If you are an Android or an iOS user, install the NH7 festivapp. It is a must-have, which offers a map of the venue and alerts to when your favourite artist is playing and where. It also offers details about all the stalls and eating joints.

2.) Drop a WhatsApp and Google Map pin for where you have parked your car. After around eight hours of head banging and drinking, this map will hold you in good stead when you need to find your vehicle. Of course, it goes without saying that drinking for eight hours is a no-no and driving to Delhi after that on the highway is a horrendous idea.

3.) If WhatsApp or Google Maps is not an option, then you can use Google Now to track the location of your car.

4.) Carry a power bank. The Xiaomi MiBank is a great option. I recommend the 10,400mAh model which can charge the iPhone 5S six times over.

5.) Carry a micro USB to USB cable for charging purposes. iPhone users will also need a lightning to microUSB adaptor or they can just carry their lightning cables.

6.) Carrying a back up phone like the Nokia 130 is a good idea. Not only will it offer incredible battery life, it is also cheap (Rs 1,500 approx) and connects to a WiFi network.

7.) Use the MTS Wi-Fi network at the Weekender. While the connectivity of the network will be patchy, it will be more reliable than 3G and will sip less power from your device.

8.) Enable Android Finder or Find my iPhone on your devices. Additionally, ensure your devices are password protected. Using Find My iPhone or Android Finder, you can track your phone on a map if you lose it.

9.) Don’t use 3G; instead, use edge if you intend to use your mobile Internet. It will be more effective as the phone normally switches towers when switching between 2G and 3G. As most people will be on 3G, the ones on 2G will have better chances of making calls.

10.) Ensure that your phone has a cover, otherwise, at an event like the Weekender, you will risk damaging your phone.

Apart from these, I advise maintaining a list of important phone numbers and credit card PINs on a piece of paper in case your phone runs out of juice. And, as always, do not drink and drive and have a safe and happy Weekender. After all, it has been dubbed the happiest music festival in India.
