UP student tells you everything wrong with demonetisation

It has been quite some time since the prime minister’s demonetisation drive has petered out, but only for some people. The 50-day grace period ended with the government not being able to show a lot of positive results, neither in terms of weeding out “black money”, nor in terms of having successfully turned this country’s economy fully digital.

And while the adverse effects of demonetisation have more or less disappeared from our lives, making day-to-day activities a little easier, the trauma of an entire nation robbed of its spending powers – for two months – still remains. Perhaps it’s also something we can’t forget because of the sheer fruitlessness of the entire endeavour.

With an election as crucial as the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls right at the doorsteps, perhaps the BJP should be worried about their moves and how it has affected the common people. In a vox populi conducted by The Lallantop, we meet a student called Archit, whose opinions on politics and government policy is one that should have been the entire nation's.

This exceptionally bright student criticises the prime minister's demonetisation drive, not because he is a "Congressi" or an "Aaptard", but because he genuinely does not see anything positive having come out of it. Archit asks if the move was aimed at weeding out black money, then how is it, that not one politician was affected by this move.

"The move brought nothing but hardship for the people who belonged to the the lower-middleclass and the lower classes. If the aim was to make sure that the corrupt would no longer be able to survive without getting caught, why was it, that it was only the poor who died?" Archit asks.

Speaking about the the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, Archit says that one of the politicians he really admires is Mayawati from Bahujan Samaj Party. The reason he supports Mayawati is because of her efforts aimed towards the upliftment of the oppressed classes - especially towards the Dalits. Mayawati, according to him, is a leader who not only does her best to make the world a fairer place for the lower castes, but also tries to provide welfare to all.

The boy speaks of the oppression of Dalits by the upper castes and how the BSP chief has tried to create a safe space for them to air their opinions and views.

Speaking of other politicians, Archit also talks about Arvind Kejriwal, a politician he respects because of his educational qualifications and his efforts to bring transparency and development in governance. According to him, it is only an educated leader who can bring about true development.

Don't you just wish all students were as opinionated and intelligent as him?
